Part of it may be because Microsoft pretty much stole halo from bungie and gave it to 343i. So bungie wanted to make Microsoft jealous and give play station an exclusive like how halo was the face of xbox for many years. They are hoping to accomplish that with play station

They did not steal anything, it was Microsoft that had rights to Halo, because they bought Bungie. That's why it was such a big deal when Bungie became a independent studio.
