If you go by the info leaked by that person that worked on the game it's because Bungie -blam!-ed up the story and cut out the content that would have had unique opening missions for exo/human/awoken.
The opening everyone plays now is supposedly the exo opening which makes a lot more sense when the ghost isn't bringing a skeleton back to life but just rebooting a broken down exo.

Edited by PerthLord: 10/18/2014 5:56:25 PMNah, it's clearly stated all guardians are brought back from the dead, Ghosts seem to be able to alter matter or rebuild it, just like they can power and rebuild damaged machinery, also Guardians are forged out of light so after the collapse the light could stop them from decaying.

It's Activision's fault. The writer, who was with bungie for years, had an awesome story but because Activision caters to the COD crowd... He left. Activison refused to let the story be how it was meant to be, cut and pasted snippets of the lore together ( making nonsense and cheap as HELL) and pulled a bait and switch when releasing the game. Activision cares only about money and ensured that the COD crowd would not bail because of story content. The ball was dropped, for money and masses. No one in Activision is interested in the story promised.

It's bungie's fault for being so stupid and actually accepting Activision's contract. Activision didn't force then to sign the contract.

I think it's been proven that the guy who leaked that was lying and in fact did not formerly work for Bungie. That being said, his explanation for why the opening mission is the way it is makes a lot of sense. An Exo is just a robot, and you can fix that, so it makes sense to be able to repair it and bring it back after "You've been dead a long time." Meanwhile, the Awoken and Humans have separate issues, like the fact that they're organic, but also that you seem so surprised to see the Queen and the Awoken despite the fact that you yourself could be one. Personally, I think a lot of the things wrong with this game is due to Activisions hand. I'd love to see Bungie update and rework the story mission a bit and give each race a different first mission.

Uhm, you do realize that the Traveler's 'Light' is essentially magic, right? It turned Mercury into a Garden World despite the fact that it's surface temperature is 700 degrees and it's so close to the sun that anything living should be fried by radiation. Destiny isn't straight up Sci-Fi, it's also got major fantasy elements. As for the Awoken, you're assuming that the Reef has always been what it is now.

Even if the *bungie employee* was lying the intro cutscene is too generic and i do believe there is truth to the story he/she told. Why would an awoken be in the piles of dead humans fleeing to the city during the fall when they were born of the darkness in space? Bungie arn't that sloppy when it comes to story telling which is why it seems like a rush job to me, there's definitely more to this story.

Edited by Father Giliam: 10/18/2014 6:01:53 PMBecause its quite possible the Awoken was one of the Earthborn mentioned in the grimoire? The Awoken appeared during the Collapse. Then there was the Dark Age. Destiny takes place during the City Age. In the time between the collapse and the time in game, its easily possible an Earthborn Awoken died (likely killed by fallen when scavenging or some other activity) and was revived by the ghost.

Because they returned to Earth? Simply because they were born in space doesn't mean they all stayed there. The storytelling isn't sloppy at all.

Watch the cutscenes, read the grimoire then read your comment,

I did. We know plenty of Awoken returned to Earth.

Edited by STARKlLLAR: 10/18/2014 6:24:42 PMafter the collapse, ghost already states you've been dead for a long, LONG time. As proven by YOUR very own comment to another forum user. "Uhm, what? Our character didn't die before the Traveler was discovered. Given the information in the game, our Guardian died during or soon after the Collapse." It would seem hard for an awoken to leave earth, return to earth after the collapse and then die outside the wall as a civilian. When others who returned are in the tower and the city. Wouldn't you agree? And ghost wouldn't quote that you'll see a lot of things you won't understand to someone who as been dead for long....
-
Yes, and? We know the Awoken were born during the Collapse, which occurred around 700 years ago. Let's assume our Guardian was the progeny of the first Awoken who then returned to Earth soon after the Collapse. He or she still would've been dead for centuries, which is entirely consistent with the Ghost's statement.
-
So why would an awoken return to earth when it's being attacked?...
-
The entire system was being attacked. It wasn't just Earth. Regardless, Earth was likely safer than living in the Asteroid Belt on ships. I imagine the early years of the Awoken were plagued by food and supply shortages, along with the constant threat of raids by Fallen etc.
