Being an Awoken breaks the lore of the game.
[b]TIMELINE:[/b]
Pre-GoldenAge, Traveler Discovery, Golden Age, Darkness Discovery, The Collapse, the after effects (Forming the Consensus, Building the City, ect.), Destiny I, The Future/Sequels.
Being an Awoken breaks the game. I know your attention span is about 10 minutes #Destiny, so I'll keep it brief.
In game lore fact: Your character died before the Traveler Discovery. This is implied and stated through quotes and the story (or lack thereof).
In game lore fact: The Awoken were created by the Collapse, after they tried to escape into space. This is stated by grimoire, promotions for the game, and many other things.
Rationalized Opinion: Your character, an Awoken who can channel the Travelers light, should not exist because the Awoken did not exist until after the Collapse. Think about it. Your character has to be "Pre-GoldenAge" and the Collapse does not occur until later down the timeline.
So, Bungie, you screwed up. Now what? We get it, Staten leaving leaves the story much to be desired. The one thing you should not do is ignore this.

1 ReplyLearn the lore. The Cosmodrome literally destroyed during the Collapse. All those cars, planes, and the remains of those that were on them were people fleeing the Fallen or whatever was attacking them. The Colony ship above Sepiks Prime was the last finished ship and was about to leave until an explosion in the fuel line, caused by rioters that couldn't get on, stranded everyone there. Thus the mass graves before Sepiks Prime. More over, not every living Human, Awoken, and Exo is within the City, also in the lore. It isn't hard to picture that your character was one of the survivors that came to the Cosmodrome to scavenge and was killed for it. And none of the guardians remember their previous lives.

Your Ghost states that youve been dead a long time, but nothing specific other than things might seem different, but you instantly know how to weild a gun and make use of your Class specific skills so you have some memories but not all of them. My theory is that your Ghost doesnt bring you back with everything intact on purpose, it scoured the land looking for a warrior and when it finds you it bring you back with just the basic killing skills to serve the Travelers purpose. As to you being an Awoken it is stated in the Grimoire that after the Collapse some Awoken returned to Earth and have been there since the founding of the City which was hundreds of years ago. Its easy enough to beleive that your character is either one of those Awoken who came back to Earth or their direct descendant. It also states in the Grimoire that the Queen is unfreindly to Earth Born Awoken along with everyone else. She's sees you as an outsider regardless, and considering what i stated before about your Ghost not bringing you back with all your memories its not hard to believe that an Awoken wouldnt know where the Awoken are from. Its also probably a case of Lazy Writing and or cut content, but thats the best explanation i can offer.

It was never implied that you died before the traveler was discovered, but that you died before the darkness defeated the traveler. The guardians were an order established before the darkness arrived. All in all the warlocks would be considered the newest order among the guardians. It can then be theorized that when the darkness arrived people started fleeing and some of the guardians left with them. While fleeing they changed, and upon realizing this they sent scouts out to see the situation on earth and your character probably died in all the fighting. At least that's the way I imagined it going down as an awoken.

How about the part where you know nothing of the awoken except that they are beyond the reef....yet you are an awoken. Lol Apparently there was to be three story arcs one for each exp human and awoken but when shit hit the fan it was all pulled and this is what we got.

It never explicitly states you've been dead since before the collapse, it only says you've been dead "a long time". Good try though.

The start wasnt supposed to be the same for every species(?) How would your ghost wake up a human that has been dead for years. It was meant to be only for the exos but after they had to scrap a lot of story line tje alternate openings went with it

Edited by RebornV3: 1/23/2015 2:59:26 AMIf your not an EXO then you break the lore of the game so the cannon character is an Exo its hard to see Human or Awoken just magically waking up after being dead for centuries but an Exo could be fixed by the ghost and turned on so being a Human or Awoken breaks the lore of the game. There were supposed to be different beginnings for all 3 races but it got cut.

It's widely known, yet not widely enough, that there were two other starting areas for each race with their own stories. But, I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain.

Apparently the starting we are given was supposed to be for exo's. Here was to be 3 others but was cut.

6 RepliesWhat leads you to believe our characters are "pre-traveler discovery" I never got that impression. The collapse happened centuries ago, guardians have been around for a while by the time the game starts. Awoken could have easily returned to earth when they failed to escape, and then died there to be resurrected later. The only odd thing I see is why did it take them hundreds of years to figure out you could weild the light. One crazy idea I have is that light is actually souls. Your ghost is literally that, YOUR SOUL. Captured by the traveler when earth was attacked, that's why it has to find you specifically, why you don't remember anything, why he knows everything etc. He's a disembodied you and the flesh is just a puppet.

You do realize that the game doesn't begin at the start of the collapse? Our characters were revived by our Ghost, it was never specified that all guardians died BEFORE the collapse.

Maybe after the events happened you went to Earth for some reason and died to be revived by your ghost later? It's a stretch but maybe

I don't believe your character is "pre-golden age." Considering how the vehicle husks are all seeming to be lined up as if in evacuation mode, it may have been during the collapse that you died. The awoken may have come about from explorers, who journeyed to the edge of the Galaxy. Transformed by the darkness, and possibly the first ones who were made aware of its existence, the ones loyal to earth would've been sent back to help defend humanity. And died while doing so. So, it is entirely possible to be an awoken guardian.

3 RepliesI dislike the fact that when you visit the Queen for the first time, there's no reaction to the fact that you're an Awoken. I feel that Bungie got lazy and could have changed up the cut scenes depending on race. Especially since they can't be skipped.

3 RepliesIf your theory is correct, Exos where built during the golden age to protect humans, so Exos would be out of place too, but theres some holes as in how do you know you died before the collapse it only says you've been dead a long time some things may look unfamiliar...

Some guardians weren't born before the collapse. See: The guy the Last Word Grimoire cards revolve around. It could be possible that your guardian lived on earth after the collapse as an Awoken, then died just outside the Cosmodrome.
