To be psychotic it would have to be out of touch with reality, as is the definition of psychosis. Considering the madman actually went and deleted his characters I don't think it is out of touch with reality.
To be psychotic it would have to be out of touch with reality, as is the definition of psychosis. Considering the madman actually went and deleted his characters I don't think it is out of touch with reality.
Demanding that another player delete their characters if they stop playing the game is out of touch with reality. In reality no player has any right to tell another player what to do with their game save. End of story.

Edited by Dredgen Truth: 10/9/2019 4:37:15 AMAfter checking the saves on his account, it does appear that he left his characters undeleted. I took someone's word for it, and I will concede that on that point I am wrong, however, I still maintain that if someone is saying that they will quit a game it is unreasonable, but not insane, to ask them to delete their saves.

The demand to delete them is insane. What definition of sane includes attempting to demand that another player delete their game save (progress) in a game??

The mentality that I believe Sweet Lew comes from is that if one truly wishes to leave something behind, as OP is clearly expressing a desire to with destiny, they don't keep it's remnants. Again, I don't agree with the basic principle, I don't think anyone should be forced to delete a character just to prove they want to quit the game, but I think it is far from insanity. Also the reason I mentioned whether or not he deleted his characters is because I previously pointed out that OP deleted his characters, and I was wrong, so whether or not it was relevant, I do not want to leave a clearly false statement that I made uncorrected.

You twist my words good sir. My insinuation was that he sees no evidence that the guy won't just say he's leaving for good and then come back two months later, as MANY have done. Again, I don't agree with the idea that people should be forced to delete their characters just to prove the validity of their claims, but I can see where he comes from. There is some basic level of logical reasoning behind it, he is not out of his mind as you have VEHEMENTLY defended, and to insinuate such is a personal attack, rather than actually addressing his logic.

How is that anyone’e business? What kind of a deranged mind believes they can decide if another player should come back to the game later without all the progress they earned? There isn’t any logic to asking another player to delete their game saves. That is the point. Edit: Also describing a behavior as psychopathic isn’t personally attacking anyone I never called any other player a psychopath. For the record.

The reason why one would say something like this is because these forums are filled with melodrama, and there is, quite frankly, no way to distinguish the actual real complaints and comments from said melodrama. I'm tired of it, and so are many others. It's why these forums are only really filled with the people who don't want to make a reddit account. People get extremely tired of stuff like this, really fast. Perhaps you don't see the reasoning behind it, but that doesn't mean the person is -blam!-ing insane.

If you are tired of it don’t read posts with titles about quitting the game. Reddit is a safe space echo chamber for people who don’t really want to discuss the game. That’s fine. Plenty of memes there to enjoy. The reasoning behind it is that people who think they have a right to tell other player to delete their characters are insane and toxic.

You are treating it as such, but it is quite literally nothing if not melodrama. The guy just says "I've been a fan of bungie for ten years and now I'm leaving," with some filler words in between. Yeah he throws in some "bungie does nothing" but that is by no means substantial feedback. Also, since we're on this train of thought, it's insane to tell me what I should and should not read. Anyone, and everyone, is allowed to read anything, and express their thoughts on that thing, and I think they should all be given the common decency of not being called a psychopath.

You clearly don't understand the gravity of the words you're throwing around.

In fact, I make an effort to attempt to communicate with things I disagree with for the sole purpose of trying to understand the thought process behind them. Though, I will stand by the idea that saying someone is exhibiting psychotic behaviors implies that one is calling them psychotic. If that was not your intent, then I am willing to concede the argument. The main reason I started the argument at all was just because the rhetoric used is very similar to that of identity politics, which I have seen far too much of, and have caused more than their fair share of stress. I will admit that this argument very well may be the product of an emotional reaction on my part, but I will still stand by that it is probably better to call something unreasonable rather than psychotic.

I gotta call your bluff. You’re arguing with me but you won’t engage with me. I’ve asked you multiple times to explain why you think actions I describe as not sane to me are sane to you but you don’t respond. 2. I would tend to agree, except I am addressing a behavior I find to be psychopathic. It’s an irrational need to exert punishment on others, and it gets expressed here often. Unreasonable would be a more politically correct term, but I’m not interested in playing politics here. I’m definitely not interested in identity politics. I can understand where you’re coming from, and I stand by the statement (toxic would be another “better” term, but that is loaded too). I really do believe that the behavior is at very best anti-social and harmful to the Destiny community.
-
I believe the actions are sane because there is some level of reasoning behind them at all. To say that they are insane is, by definition, suggesting that the cause behind them is mental illness. Believing it's ok to kill someone is insane. Thinking oneself to be godlike is insane. I don't think we should use the same rhetoric for someone asking a person to delete their characters in a video game. I can agree though, the behaviour is definitely harmful for the community. It should be condemned, I just think that everyone should be given the common decency of not being called insane unless they have an actual mental illness.

I don't disagree with that, I don't think people should tell others to do that, in fact, from the very beginning, on my first reply to you, I said that I thought his actions were unreasonable, I just think it's going overboard to call it psychotic.
-
Well, again, in reality, THIS reality, to be clear, the guy deleted his characters. There is a difference between being unreasonable and being downright insane.

He never told him to. He asked if he would.
He never told him to. He asked if he would.
You want to play semantics? Go through Lew’s replies to similar posts. Look at other replies on this post. As I said, demanding another player delete their characters is psychotic. Since were playing semantics you will notice I didn’t say Lew told him to.
It’s insane to believe that you have the right to tell other players that they should delete their game saves
Here's you insinuating he told him to. And if he really did say that, I will not contest that he did, but I have not seen any posts saying that he did. If they exist I would like a quote.

Just mentioned that in a previous post, also a reply to you. Check it out. Good read. And also, You can't literally say he was "telling other players" to do something, and then say "I never said he was telling other players to do that thing," you can't expect me to be that stupid, can you? If we're going around calling people psychotic as if that's acceptable I have for more reason to believe that you are out of touch with reality. Of course, I know that you, as most humans, have your own lines of reasoning, and as such it is not morally just to call you insane until I have a diagnosis in my goddamn hands.
