With the announcement of the Xbox Scorpio, there has been a noticeable increase in fanboy hate from both Sony and Microsoft fans. I'm here to clear some things up about what's really going on with these console titans. Sony fans say it will fail because of a lack of exclusives, and Microsoft fans say that it will crush Sony for good this time. (Paraphrasing the general tone. Don't ask me for quotes.)
I don't think people understand healthy competition anymore. The CEOs of Microsoft and Sony are probably sitting around together laughing at the saltfest coming from both sides, as they have this entire console generation, and every generation before. The more uproar we the consumers make, the more they sell—on both sides.
They probably flipped a coin to see who would "win" this generation, and when Sony won Microsoft tanked that first E3 and basically continually shot themselves in the foot. Then they both waited, released their updated consoles, profited off of more saltiness, and now they're setting up to do it again. Only this time it's Microsoft's turn.
This time Microsoft has unveiled its monster console, and developers will flock to it for exclusive deals.
Btw, I don't know if people know how exclusives work. A lot of people act like Microsoft is just not trying for any exclusives right now. That may be partially true, but it's more likely that developers just want to go with Sony because the PS4 is better graphically, and Sony probably pays more. Developers decide the exclusives, not the console owner.
Those exclusive deals will most likely give Microsoft the significant boost in sales that they need to gear up for the next generation, and Sony will use the profits that they have collected the last few years to build their next system.
tldr: the complexities of economics and capitalism are lost on the basic fanboys that make up the majority of video game consumers.
Edit: Some good responses, others not so much. It seems like a lot of people have gained the ability to see the future, and continue to insist that no games are coming out for the Scorpio. Just because there haven't been any announced yet, doesn't mean there won't be any. At least wait for E3 to make statements like that.

Here's the difference between Microsoft and Sony: Microsoft uses its high margin OS and Office business to fund its low margin Xbox business. Sony uses its low margin PlayStation business to fund its lower margin electronics business. Tl;dr Sony is in it to win it while Microsoft is in it for shits and giggles.

That edit. Some people are already saying that "x has won this year" when we aren't even a month away from E3. Most of the fanboy salt you are talking about is just this forum. Go to Reddit, Neogaf, etc and you'll see that the majority of people understand that competition only helps the industry.

What i thought you were going to say was: "Squeeze some lemons, get some one to squeeze lemons for you."

All I know is PC master race. Console wars are pathetic.
-
Can you people who take part in console wars please take a step back and realise how f*cking weird you are thanks
-
I wont change consoles for one or two games.
-
People just like to feel that they're in the "winning side", even if they don't understand the big picture

Adventure capitalist?

No developer is going to the Scorpio looking for exclusive deals, that's it how exclusive works.

I don't need to take part in some console wars shit to say that I think they scorpio is a waste of hardware. At least for the next few years, no games will come out that push that system. It's still an Xbox One, every game made for it can be optimised for scorpio but will still run perfectly clear on Xbone.
-
What happens if developers make Scorpio exclusives unable to run on current Xbox Ones? That would only fracture the player base even further in disarray. And if developers go the route of parity, what has been stopping them from X1 exclusives this whole console generation?
-
I don't care about console wars. I play what I play and respect those who play other systems and games. I'm not 12 anymore. Very interesting analysis though.
-
I want good games. I honestly could care less about the specs of the console, as long as the game is enjoyable. It seems that developers are forgetting about good games.
Not Nintendo though.
I just find it funny that at the launch of this gen it was PS4 that was powerful with no games with all the PS4 people spouting about their superior hardware. Now it's the other way around

Capitalist pigs. Real men use communism.

I just don't understand the fanboyism of it all. If you don't like it, don't buy it. E3 hasn't even come yet, and because of a small amount of time without an exclusive they assume Xbox has no games at all. And how others think that the new console will destroy PlayStation is not true in the slightest. Xbox had a bad start when the one came out, they messed up and people bought ps4s instead, they will definitely not catch up to their sales this generation. They're doing this for the Xbox fans that want the most power ever seen in a console. There's no downside of it that I can tell.

Exclusives aren't actually that great for business tbh. I'll probably ditch Xbox once they stop producing games for the XB1. PC will be the way to go.
