Ok lets have it from a Warlock's view.
-Throwing knives are a skilled, powerful Hunter tool that has potential to body shot with Handcannon or sidearm and hit em in the hit head for a 2hko.
We Warlocks don't have much of a problem except for this... At times we feel that ranged melees should not be that powerful. Our melees just have a unique effect such as regen on impact or perhaps an overshield that is not that affective. Or simply an overrange punishing melee that only does 1/2 of hp like a normal punch, force, or stab.
Now why do we get a bit salty from Knives? Well the reason is that they are entering a domain that belongs to Warlocks primarily. If they have really powerful knives that have infinite range, then what does it means for us? It means the whole thought of having ranged melee's is useless and we are better off with a Hunter since Blink Strike has a range of a Warlock melee and Throwing Knives have more damage output than any Warlock melees, placing them in a bad position.
Now do we want a nerf? No not really. A little impact reduction would be good so people who have mastered their knives won't trigger the infinite loop of 'shoot 1 or 2 bullets, throw knife to head. Repeat.' Maybe it could be 'shoot 3 times with my AR then throw knife-repeat.'
Thats what Warlocks would think of this. Now I'm not sayin the Lunge nerf was justified, we were ok with Blink Strike since they reduced the front stab potential. So we are happy with Blade dancer but Throwing Knives impact reduction was kind of needed so the infinite loop doesn't happen 24/7

Edited by AquanotSteve: 6/21/2016 6:37:45 AM:edit: Just want to say that you should try to do what you want to see changed before you sit here and post why it needs this or that. Go into crucible on a gunslinger as it is right now, and chain those knife kills. Keep trying until you manage to chain two in a row (per life) consistently in 5 games. Then tell me it needs to do less damage.

Never mind. You don't even have a hunter. Baseless and biased conjecture.
-
Except you have to aim with a knife. Not so much with a warlock melee.
-
You're aware that Bungie stated themselves when nerfing shotguns, that Warlocks have more melee range than Blink Strike? Hunters never entered the Warlock domain outside of Blink.
-
Hey watch Badass gaming

Lol. Your "infinite loop" is severely flawed. It is the same as the body shot with sniper , followed by one hit with a primary.
-
I'm pretty sure the warlock is supposed to have a longer range then the hunter. Each class has its own play style and strengths
-
That's true, but the Warlock has appeared to excel at more attributes than the other classes. For instance you have the self-resurrection, which is incredibly versatile. Some may also argue that the Warlocks have the most useful exotic pieces of armour. But it's all opinions. I didn't make my OG post to moan about Warlocks.

A warlock suggesting that a ranged melee not be that powerful. That's cute.
-Throwing knives are a skilled, powerful Hunter tool
Were a powerful Hunter tool.
At times we feel that ranged melees should not be that powerful. they are entering a domain that belongs to Warlocks primarily.
Why should it be the Warlock's domain if you already get overshields and energy drain abilities? If a Gunslinger gets no such advantages, why not a little extra damage to compensate? It's already much more difficult to land than a Warlock's melee AND you lose your charge when you miss. That word "belongs" is loaded - shows a bit of self-entitlement, don't you think?
they have really powerful knives that have infinite range
Infinite range? That's only relevant if you can actually hit them with it. Using throwing knives effectively rather than wastefully means using them at a range comparable to a Warlock's melee range, which is a point that I have made before - not just now to counter a Warlock's view. Yeah, we've all heard that they have large hitboxes. If it were reduced any further I think they would need to severe buff to its velocity to give Gunslingers any chance of hitting a moving target at fusion rifle range and beyond.
Throwing Knives impact reduction was kind of needed so the infinite loop doesn't happen 24/7
What is this infinite loop that you speak of? Show me somebody taking advantage of this. Exodass32's montage that received a bit of attention a while back is the closest that I have ever seen to what you describe, and he showed exceptional skill in putting together a streak of several throwing knife kills in succession. I can put together a few kills in a row if I'm on point. Hardly infinite, and almost a non-factor with the speed in which people can charge their abilities these days.
-
You don't speak for all warlocks
-
Alright, most warlocks who hate the infinite loop
-
This is my problem with warlock melee. When I use my lock and melee I'm like this is bad ass the range is sweet. Then I go to my Hunter and I melee and nothing happens. Oh ya I was to far for it to work this Hunter melee sucks.
-
The difference is a throwing knife takes some sort of skill. A sniper melee doesn't.
-
Its kind of like the Hawkmoon... Most precision knives are luck, not skill. The skilled ones are the super crazy youtubers
-
Still doesn't explain how they are that "powerful" and have "infinite range"... I never OHK someone, only when they were below half health. Instead of nerfing the damage they should of buffed it so it was a OHK on a headshot and took down the hitbox quite a bit.
-
I'd say it's 50-50. Half of them are dumb luck, the other half is skill. As for the cycle, get them in close and pop one into their chest and let the knife fly with the recoil -- usually a guaranteed headshot, takes some practice though
-
Gotta disagree there. I use Gunslinger often, and rarely do I ever get a lucky long range knife kill.
-
And you're alright with the Stormcaller melee that can practically kill from a range that Titans can only dream of?
-
If u are sprinting with the Titan the melee is good
-
It does make sense because with range, they don't even have much power. In fact, it has the same damage as a basic melee. Throwing knife has infinite range+lots of power
-
It doesn't have infinite range. It has an arc, which means that the knife falls slowly.
-
But you can still throw it right with out damage fall off? Lol at least stormcaller has a limit,
