My theory on the birth of the hive.
The voyager space probe, which is carrying a human DNA structure on board, came into contact with the fallen at the start of their golden age. This would mean that the traveler had Knowledge of humans prior to coming to earth. The fallen how ever didn't understand any of the messages sent with probe. They did however notice the DNA structure while vastly different from their own was similar enough. The Traveler also had access to the same information being with the fallen upon the probes discovery. The fallen, in my opinion, could have helped the traveler defend it's self against The Darkness. I also believe the "whirlwind" was caused by the hive.
The hive I believe are the effects of the Fallen genetically manipulating the DNA from the DNA structure on the probe to try and clone humans unknowingly. Because of this they crated the first Hive. They altered the DNA so that the clones could survive in the fallen environments. This drastic change is what aloud the hive the abilities to adapt so easily.
The darkness while coming after The Traveler found the Hive, a found the perfect conduit to build an army. The hive where then geneticly incorporated into The Darkness giving them far greater powers and birthing the upper class of hive. The Fallen quickly fell and The Traveler had to abandon them.
The Traveler sought us next in hopes to that we would be able to stop the darkness infused, genetically altered infused human DNA. Once the traveler arrived it started quickly building up our galaxy sustainable for Humans. Upon contact the Traveler quickly started advancing us far quicker than it had with the Fallen. Given the time it had to analyze the data from the probe and our surrounding satellites and transmissions sent to space.
Still doesn't make sense.
