The speaker says that the traveler created the ghosts in its dying breath. Yet he also says that until the traveler wakes and finds it voice again he speaks for it. So how is it that the traveler can be dead and sleeping at the same time? Seems a little off to me. Like maybe the speaker is hiding something from us?

The speaker also talks about the Traveler starts to regain light after we defeat the Heart of the Black Garden. It may be dead for now, so I don't think the Traveler is a completely "living thing". Maybe somehow we revive it later down the road to help us fight off the rest of the darkness. I really don't look into the lore too much tho, and the conspiracy theories make good conversations, and are quite funny IMO

Well I can agree with you on the traveler not completely being a "living thing." And if I'm not mistaken I believe the speaker says the traveler starts to regain light after we stop the ritual that the hive were performing on a shard of the traveler. The reason we destroy the black garden is because we are lead to believe that the vex are controlling it and want to destroy every planet and turn them into their machines. So we killed the heart in order to stop the vex and protect the last city. Not so the traveler could begin to regain it's light since it had already started doing that when we stopped the ritual of the hive.

Actually the hive ritual was to stop them from drainage of the Traveler's light. Never mentions it regaining after we stop them. If that's true the Traveler can't be completely dead, he must be in some type of slumber, or maybe a comatose state.

No it doesn't say that he starts to regain his light. But your ghost does say that the traveler can now begin to regain light once the mission is complete.

Gotcha, good theory. The speaker does have a bad ass mask. Been wanting it since I started playing. Let's kill him and take it!

Hahaha. His whole outfit is pretty badass. The only other stuff in the whole game besides the footprint in the opening cinematic to have the destiny logo is his shit lol.

Right, it just goes hand in hand as we fight off those trying to create destruction. That's why I don't think the Traveler is evil. He may have left those other species, but never destroyed them. He seems to bring progression and growth wherever he goes. The other species seem to want to harvest it's power for their own benefit, and not for the greater good of the universe. That's just how I see it.

Well another thing that I've been thinking about is this. When you're in the tower and look out at the traveler you see these lights swarming around under it. Then when you look off in the sky around it you see these lines surrounding it. My theory with this, and it's all speculation, is that the traveler did arise with good intentions to help us progress and fight off the darkness. But over the many years the speaker has become corrupt and has somehow managed to tie down the traveler with a spell or something else. And now he tells us what he wants to while he has those lights that are under the traveler harvest it for what he wants. Now this is all speculation on my part but it's just interesting to think of it that way. When the traveler sacrificed itself for us it became to weak to move on and defend itself. So it's been sitting here regaining it's strength. But like I said the speaker has become corrupt and is now harvesting the traveler for its light and other materials.
