Thorn is used in trials a lot due to DOT. I don't see a massive problem with the thorn - there are plenty of guns that will take a thorn on. If anyone doesn't believe that then they should use one themselves and out-shoot their opponent, pretty simple logic.

Agreed. Plus people complaining about it don't realize that Thorn and the other hand cannons are high risk high reward weapons. Gotta make those head shots to get fast kills depending on how your enemies armor is set.
