I really think it doesn't need a nerf simply because it was buffed for a full 2 months or more without many problems . . . until Auto Rifles got nerfed, that is.
In mid-range engagements, the Thorn's TTK is great until a few bullets get thrown at the user. This makes the target hard to hit and Thorn's TTK becomes crap. Auto Rifles used to have a similar TTK as Thorn but typically won in closer engagements because the hail of bullets threw off the Thorn's aim too badly to be used well. Only skilled HC users could use a Thorn against an AR and only skilled users came out on top.
TL;DR I think Thorn isn't the issue, having no ARs to balance the playing field is.

Pulse do an okay job at it from mid-long range, but the AR nerf is the only reason so many ppl complain about, not only thorn, but HCs in general. whether they know it or not.

Because most people spray the body with ar's in hope to get the kill that or they try to rush instead of changing their play style. You can't rush with ar's anymore in a straight up gun fight like you use to use them at their advantage now almost like a scout in playing laid back don't camp but pick your fights wisely. I was using necrocasm yesterday in skirmish and was out killing thorn and hawkmoon and even last word on some people. You can't shoot the body and hope to get the kill get your headshots and they drop like flies. This coming from an avid handcannon user.

i couldnt win outright gun battles with them to save my life vs equally skilled players, unless i got the drop on them. which if you get the first shots off you should generally win no matter what weapon you have. im not a spray and prayer, been using full auto guns in FPSs since they came out, always been my favorite type, always will be. they are crap compared to every other choice currently in destiny.

That's what I'm saying if you rush someone with an ar your likely going to lose. You have to play defensive and choose your fights so you do get a drop on them when you choose your fights. The meta has changed and you have to be able to adapt your playstyle to compensate if your going to stick to ars
