I call dickception...
They are lying. There is no way that this break was an accident. Something caused it.
They want us to play differently, this is HOW they do it. Its a mechanical change folks...

I'm sure it a side effect of mechanical changes placed in to prevent cheesing, clutching, cheating ... perhaps intended for use in a very particular situation. This is a side effect of that change in mechanics.
