It's the one weapon I always thought shouldn't be sold again. I just got mine yesterday and it is actually one of the few exotics I have not bought from xur.

I liked having an elusive weapon to chase after, one that was always talked about and stood out from all the others. The only other weapons I wanted as badly were Thorn, IB, and Blackhammer. Of all the weapons I bought from xur (most of them), none were as fun or rewarding to aquire as gally, thorn or BH. It's like the difference between getting your usual paycheck on Friday vs winning big on a roulette table. What I'm trying to say is I was worried gally was going to get sold before I had a chance to have it drop for me. Wanted that buzz.
