Hah you think the grimoire card is referncing a players perspective ha! The card is from the perspective of the traveler as it has been chased acrose space by the darkness until it reached earth where it stoped, and turned to fight the darkness.

1-I always thought it was interesting that in the sword of Crota mission the ghost reminds you that the sword is powered by dark energy. And yet it speeds your super charge speed considerably. If your powers are a gift of the traveler, to me that means the "darkness" of Crota and the power of the traveler is not all too different. 2-Also there's a mission on the moon where you fight the hive and when you win the hive were using the traveler's shard. I don't think good and evil is as obvious as black and white. I see the labeling of darkness and light ratings as something like war propoganda. 3-What groups/sides are there? There's traveler, the queen, the fallen, the hive, and the stranger who seems like kindve an underground movement. I know there's a grimoire card talking about a certain number of armies and how to defeat a coming threat. Two will have to work together, it's the ramblings of someone but I don't personally have this card. If someone could quote it that'd really help. I think it hints at what each side is about.

Edited by EwCringe: 11/17/2014 5:48:38 PMBtw you can't possibly believe the Cabal, Vex and Hive to be good, right? Cabal have destroyed entire planets because "Why not?" The Hive are undead kept alive by their mysterious deity. There is nothing good about undead. The Vex tried to mechanize everything and turn all life into machines.
-
The speaker was reluctant to tell you anything about the traveler in the beginning of the game...could this be evidence of an evil Traveler?
-
I think it's fun to imagine and roleplay out these theories, and maybe create some fanfic or whatever, but I think it's pretty clear Bungie intended for the Traveler to be good.
-
Darkness is only the absence of light. So what if the darkness is only us destroying our selves? We need to strengthen ourselves in order to keep the darkness away.
-
I believe, the Fallen were a race once blessed with the Traveler's light just as we are. But this caused civil war among them and warring houses and later the Traveler abandoned them. They are seeking vengeance. The Cabal are militaristic and interested in Rasputin and Warmind tech solely for warfaring purposes, I believe. The Hive are an evil and just taking advantage of our miserable situation. The Vex, they keep certain things locked out of time. Why? To protect, I think, from the Traveler. Keep in mind a Warmind is the only thing that can out-think the Vex, and they worshiped the Black Garden's heart, something that they didn't understand.
-
And yes we do have proof of this. Check the Grimoire.

Here's what I've worked our so far, this is a mix of facts from the grimorie and some other stuff I've theorized. 1. A main factor to the vex threat is the black garden 2. At some point in time, the original keeper of the garden (theorized to be the creator of our reality) was killed by an unstoppable/evil force 2B. I theorize Rasputin watched this happen, and formed an alliance with IT. 3. The black garden exists outside of space/time 3B. The black garden is actually inside the Traveler. Rasputin and IT (theorized to be the darkness) used the black garden to create the vex. 4. The Traveler has been at war with the darkness for longer than we know, possibly since the assistance of reality. 4B. The traveler already fought and lost the war, and now the darkness is using it as a "puppet" to gain access to new worlds. 5. Multiple realities do exist, and nobody knows where the Exo came from 6. The Exo stranger is involved in a very complicated shadow war 6B. (theory) This alternate universe is where the darkness is originally from.

Isn't it Trinary Star Cult?
-
Well since the Vex do hate all other evil. Plus other hints from grimoire along with lines in game and those weird "hidden cameras" in the tower
-
From a possible objective third party (not dinklebot or speaker), "Everyone must choose a side, even if it's the wrong one." The Stranger plainly says she is not born of "light" but she doesn't say that she's born of "darkness" either. Might be an observer of the whole ordeal like the ascended.

The only way I could see a basic story such as Destiny dragged on for another 9 years is if the tales of the Traveler had all been true... For instance, in the Chamber of Night mission where we have to free a shard of the Traveler from leeching darkness... How could a shard of the traveler itself succumb to that small amount of darkness? thats what ive recently begun to question
-
what makes you think the Guardians we play and our objectives are "Good"? What if the other people are just trying to SURVIVE just like we are. Ultimately, it looks like everyone is just trying to kill the greatest threat to them.
-
i'll contribute, as i absolutely LOVE this kind of shit.... however, the only way we'll know for sure, is when Destiny 2 comes out.....we removed all obstacles to the traveler "healing", at the end of Destiny's primary story campaign, despite what others say, there was a story, it was coherent, and we did accomplish something in the game's world at the completion of the campaign... now that the traveler is able to recover, i have a good feeling we'll see just what's what....
-
All of this speculation could have been resolved if we had the story to begin with
-
The speaker sounds like he is voiced by Bill Nighy, who I'm yet to witness take a role that doesn't end in evil and darkness.
-
What if the darkness was good? I remember whenever the stranger said something about the Vex, "Evil so dark, it despises other evil." What if the Vex are good and to us, brainwashed guardians, are also evil by killing off species like the fallen. Fallen are just scavengers, who are they trying to kill?
-
Was Handsome Jack truely evil.
-
The speaker is totally shady. What if its not the traveler that is evil but the speaker? It's not like "speaker for the traveler" is an elected position. We are running around like cult members killing everything Dinklebot tells us too. Maybe the traveler's facade is turning black because it's purpose is being corrupted by the speaker's actions. Also, that asshat wears chatterwhite.
-
the third darkness grimoire has more evidence about the traveler being evil. Also atheon what if he was a good guy? he is an atheist after all.
-
There are other more interesting cards

I'll outline my similar theory here
The more I play this game the more I'm convinced that we are in fact the bad guys. Every mission we run feels like the actions of a saboteur or assassin or more accurately a TERRORIST. I have some theories about the history of our Galaxy and the true nature of the Traveler that I will outline here. The grimoire tells us that knowledge of the true nature of the collapse of our Golden Age is lost, but how could the survivors possibly forget such a cataclysmic event? Only if the truth was deliberately concealed from us could this be possible, which explains why the Speaker is so reticient to share his knowledge with us - because he is in collusion with our Dark Master who hides behind the light and has turned us into minions of evil. The only real societal collapse we know about is the civil war between the thousands of factions that once existed - I believe this was our real collapse and orchestrated by the Traveler to feed on the souls of our dead. Why would so many races that have encountered this supposedly benevolent and inoffensive being be hell bent on capturing or destroying it? They tell us that these races are evil servants of this supposed darkness but that sounds a little too black and white in a reality we know to be shades of grey. I believe these races are either seeking vengeance on the traveler for the horrors it has visited on them or have pierced the veil of its machinations and seek to destroy it in self-defense. Firstly take the fallen: they appear to share many similarities with us. They were once a mighty civilisation experiencing a golden age, just like us, they suffered a terrible societal collapse, just like us. We also know they have previously encountered the traveler and have come to this Solar system to destroy it. There are other similarities too - the relationship between the servitors and the fallen seems like a beta version of our relationships with our ghosts. It is suggested that the servitor prime controls the souls of the fallen possibly even reviving the dead, just like our ghosts. The servitors also look after communications just like the ghosts. To me the servitors really do appear to be ancient versions of our ghosts. Once it had fed upon their society it moved on to ours the remnants of fallen society have been hunting it ever since. I believe the Cabal are an empire comparable to that of the pre-horus heresy empire of the Warhammer 40k universe. They recognised the threat and power of the Traveler and seek to destroy or capture it. I believe they were only able to resist its influence thanks to the Psions and Flayers. To me the Hive are insectoid in nature - chitinous exoskeletons, webs and eggs in their bases and the fact they're called the Hive seem to support this. So I believe rather than being evil the hive reacted to the traveler's machinations the same as any colony of insects when threatened - they've swarmed to eliminate the the threat! I believe it was their unfathomable insectoid sentience that prevented them from falling under the influence of the Traveler. Finally the Vex I believe our the true heroes in this story. I theorise that they are human creations from far in our future designed to save us from the traveler and guide humanity back on a path of independence and freedom. This is supported by Atheon and the rest of the Vex's apparent abilities to travel through space and time and the fact that the vex have created weapons purely designed for human use; Vex Mythoclast. With their power to build gargantuan structures surely they could have built an immense vessel with the powers of the vault launched it against earth and killed us all with Gorgons by now. But instead they try to protect their beautiful Garden and leave challenges for us that we can defeat, even leaving powerful weapons to be used against them lying around in their vault of glass. Hardly sounds like a race hellbent on death and destruction. Rather they are Gardeners as they describe themselves pruning and shaping the tree of life to grow healthy and un tainted by the Traveler. Don't believe the lies of the speaker and know that we are the undying servants of death and destruction who have ripped our own society apart in unwitting tribute to this parasite we call the Traveler. It is up to us to discover the truth and reclaim our DESTINY! I leave you with these excerpts from the grimoire and some food for thought: At the end of the path grew a flower in the shape of a Ghost. I reached out to pluck it and it cut me with a thorn. I bled and the blood was Light. The Ghost said to me: You are a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill. You do not belong here. This is a place of life. The Traveler is life, I said. You are a creature of Darkness. You seek to deceive me. But I looked behind me, down the long slope where the blossoms tumbled in the warm wind and the great trees wept sap like blood or wine, and I felt doubt. When my Ghost raised me from the sea there was a thorn-cut in my left hand and it has not healed since. You can ask others about Deep Stone and they'll tell you about the army. They might confess one truth, which is this: we have to kill the army to get to the tower. Usually this starts bare-handed, and somewhere along the way you take a weapon. Ask again and if they're buzzed they might also admit that most of us don't make it to the Tower, except once or twice. None of them will tell you that the army is made of everyone we meet. The people we work with and the people we see in the street and the people we tell about our dreams. We kill them all. I think because we were made to kill and this is the part of us that thinks about nothing else. Often I kill people I don't know, but like most of us I think I knew them once, in the time before one reset or another, when my mind was younger and less terribly scarred. Love to hear others thoughts on this. P.S Apologies for any spelling errors or grammar mistakes.
One key word "what if" you have no facts.
-
traveler is good, speaker is really a bad guy and the traveler is gonna be destroyed and turned into fragments in the future I think during the house of wolves and the reef will be out new home .
