Exotics help yes, but for most of the rips all you need is a good shotgun and/or fusion rifle. The only exotic you should be using for pvp should be the primary for most classes. EX: HAwkmoonOP, Suros Reignsoveryou, Vex Mythokill, and The Last Word Specials: They should only be used in situations like during control or when you have a good idea of where your enemy is. Too many times I've seen enemies rush at me with a shotgun from across the map and die. As for exotics, the honestly don't matter as much. The Patience and time and plan c are definitely the best for specials tho Heavy: Memorize the ammo spawn location, Camp the ammo, and also when you do get the heavy ammo, don't just charge into the fight. Wait a little bit before you go into the action. Reason being is that you don't want to lose those precious shots in your gun to some guy who kamikazies you with his. Exotics to look for: The Truth, Thunderlord, and Gjallarhorn.

Exotics don't make a huge difference; but having good legendary weapons certainly does. They just generally have larger magazines, better stability, etc. (and of course more perks) than their commoner counterparts. If you like autorifles, I highly recommend picking up either Up For Anything from the vanguard vendor, or Vanquisher VIII from New Monarchy. Both are excellent. More important than the weapons you use, however, is knowing general principles for Crucible success. Always watch the radar; never go into a confrontation where you're outnumbered; always pick up the Heavy Ammo (but be courteous enough to wait for teammates to get it too). Etc. And don't be afraid to die as you experiment and find a setup that works for you. For example, a lot of people swear by shotguns; but I just can't seem to use them correctly and do much better with a Fusion Rifle special.

Never kill your self the world would be lost without their pear but join the club and use the op no land beyond

Also Shotguns (altough only on certain maps) help a lot in the begining. And Exotics only help to a certain point. If you really suck at PvP and can't hit anything you will still not be able to hit anything :D but no, killing yourself won't hlep

You should never kill yourself <3 Exotics certainly help!
