So, I've been playing Dark Souls 2 for a couple hours now and here are my first impressions (with no spoilers):
-I'm enjoying the new graphics
-It's still as difficult as the first one
-I keep dying (and that's ok)
-The frame rate in this game is pretty smooth and is a big improvement over Dark Souls 1
-The combat feels more fluid than it did in DS1
-The UI is much, much better
-The world is freakin' gorgeous
That's all for now. What are your thoughts on Dark Souls 2 so far? If you're hesitant to pick it up I really recommend it.

Well I killed the great big boss that looked like the pumpkin patch king from charlie brown except made of people. Then I read the description of his soul and immidiately felt like a dick. Even the intro to him was kind of sad. All he wanted to do was build a working statue.

So I just thought of something to be the biggest piece of shit ever in the Rat King Covenant. If I use bonfire ascetics on the Rat King PvP areas, will that make all the npcs new game + material, and then they will be super strong while attacking gray phantoms I summon in?

Edited by Sandtrap: 3/25/2014 5:27:30 PMIT'S OFFICIAL, FROM SOFTWARE HATES PANTS On two profiles, I've been grinding away on two different types of enemies for their armour sets. In each area, I've completely made the entire enemy population disappear because of the spawn limit. I've been consuming luck boosting items like there's no -blam!-ing tomorrow, and even threw in a bonfire aesthetic on both accounts to respawn the enemies. So, here's my total after two depletions of enemies in each area, and being drunk on luck boosting items. Two rows of helmets. Two rows of gloves. Three rows of torso gear. AND NOT. ONE. SINGLE. PAIR. OF. PANTS. With that being said, I'm creating a new profile now. I'm going to do a batman build.

Not related to II, but holds some merit.

Edited by Orion: 3/28/2014 1:59:21 PMAnyone know of any good weapons for a faith build? On NG++ most of the weapons don't feel viable. I've been doing most of it with Lightning Spears. I've experimented with a lot of different weapons, reallocating STR/DEX points, but no matter what I can't seem to get anything above 400 damage. Compared to Great Lightning Spear which can do up to 800. With exception to the Black Knight Sword, that is a little over 500 at +5, and feels balanced.

Edited by Sandtrap: 3/28/2014 1:50:27 PMSo far, I haven't beaten the game yet, and like to experiment on my three profiles. But my new one is hilarious. I made Batman. Right now my Caestus is at +3, and my strength and dex are at 22 each. Normal enemies get demolished. But bosses take a lot less damage, but it's hilarious when somebody summons me and I run in there with a pair of binoculars in one hand, Caestus in the other, and start punching the boss for wee little 70's. For a while there I was a little iffy on what I should use, and then I had it. I use the starting clothes you get in the game, the one with the tattered black cloak, turtle knight leggings, gauntlets, and helmet. However, the game was being a dickhead and didn't drop the helmet and now I'm out of turtle knights. And I know that as I progress through the game, I'll find other cool fist based weapons to add to my arsenal. But right now, for fun, I've also got the old whip which I use as a grappling line of sorts. But, my true target is a very, very special ring. When you get this ring and wear it, your bare fist damage is doubled. Your fists scale in STR and DEX, and with a little bit of math done, at 25 dex and str, your bare fists alone do 580 damage. It'll be a damn fine day when I get my hands on that ring. Speaking of turtle knight helmets, if any of you happen to have one, it would be much appreciated if we could do a trade. I'm sitting somewhere in the mid 40s for level, even 50's. If you summon me or I summon you, I've got a Titanite Slab with your name on it for that helmet. It's not the new helmet either, it's the old Ironclad helmet. GT is Sangheili Merc if interested. Help a fistifuffs brother out!

Edited by Flee: 3/24/2014 3:48:52 PMGood game is good. Almost finished my first playthrough. I'm doing a challenge run, kinda. Melee only, no lifegems, no effigies, no summons and default wanderer's set only. Only downside so far is how they seem to have favored blocking over rolling and are leaning more towards turtling than actually evading. Shame. I also have no idea why people are whining about the graphics so much. Yes, the trailer looked better. But I still find myself amazed by how stunning some things look, like the lighting the bonfire animation in the dark or wandering around dark caves with a torch out. It looks great.

I forgot what the area was called that I'm stuck on, but it's like this open swap area with magic ladies that shoot magic at you. Plus with being in the water it just makes it harder to dodge the magic they shoot at you. Holy shit that place sucks. Anyone know a good way to get past it? I haven't played Dark Souls 2 for about a week cause of this place lol.

Edited by Demigod: 3/25/2014 8:02:45 PMFighting Vendrick was the last thing I did before starting NG+. It was such a depressing fight. It reminded me of the fight with Gywnn, but while Gywnn was a bit of a challenge, Vendrick was nothing. It was quite literally beating up a defenseless old man, that didn't want to, and couldn't harm you. He was just the husk of a man who tried everything to save his people, and failed. Such feels.

I want Blinding Bolt.
-
I know this isn't Dark Souls 2... But I thought it was worth sharing hah
-
The game deserves a 10/10 and a holy/unholy choir
unholy because in dark souls your dead
If there's any consolation for anyone, I'm currently running the CoC on Dark Souls II and I've been having a hard time soloing all the bosses. The last boss I soloed was the Lost Sinner, and I didn't know I was supposed to get to her first before going through the Royal Rat Authority.
-
I've almost beat the game now. I still need to kill the ancient dragon and Vendrick before the last boss. I'm trying to kill the ancient dragon first and DEAR LORD. I'm getting one hit by him over and over, and I keep getting nightmarish flashbacks to the red drake from DaS. The run to get to him every time is no help either.
-
I hate the people that summon you and Bellclaire, in that triple sentinel fight. Two people are enough.
-
I solo'd the Smelter Demon, get a Gyrm greatshield and he's a piece of cake.
-
Just beat Vendrick. I almost pulled my hair out during that fight, it was getting so annoying.
-
The miracle lightning bolt spell is amazing. Got it at the beginning of the game and it and like the shockwave miracle are my top two offensive weapons. It's turned every boss fight into loleasymode
-
This game is so -blam!-ing good

Edited by Kafuu Chino: 3/23/2014 3:32:20 AMI wish the wikis would update with images of all the weapons and armor pieces, I want to get my Fashion Souls on. I've been rocking Alva's set with Heide helmet, Bastard sword, and Drangleic shield. When I help people with bosses I remove the chest, put on the imported hood, and equip the Greatsword.
-
I just beat a Dragon to death by 2 handing Havel's shield. And I also just finished off
Vendrick
by doing the same, because my weapon broke 3/4's into the boss fight haha.
-
Same thing as you although I think it is harder than the first
-
The skeleton lords fight was the easiest boss fight in any Souls game.
-
Dark Souls 2 is out?

Oh god those Magic Missile assholes in Shrine of Amana are really pissing me off.
