Exotic Weapon Bounties vs. Xur

Ok so I finally went ahead and chased an exotic bounty rather than get it from Xur because I wanted to see just how hard it could be... Oops. Let's just say it took me a while to rack up void damage in Crucible with a titan and nothing but Trolley, Valedictorian and some grenades....annnd I still need to run Phogoth to kill Xylor (sp?) to get Thorn. Which is still better than the exotic bounty I have that wants 25 strikes and I can only imagine how many more steps are left. I hate to be the one to take shortcuts, but Xur is definitely the easiest way to go.

  • I've done both of those and they weren't bad at all... Have about 6 more strikes needed for my second Tolands legacy bounty, which will take about an hour in the Roc and then with Xur around I'll really be only 2-3 control matches away from a shiny new 331 juju and an exotic shard from the old one... The exotic bounties are more time consuming than difficult but I like that they can take you out of your comfort zone

  • I've done Thorn and Bad JuJu. I love the juju. Haven't leveled the thorn yet. Finishing Mida and hawkmoon first.

  • Baseball, Nate, Giant.... I'll openly admit, I didn't know Xur didn't sell any exotic bounty weapons, never paid much attention until I got to DoD and had enough coins to make it worth it. Mostly my thoughts were "Cool!! What can I blow up now?!" Meant the post more as a comment on comparing running a couple of strikes and maxxing out on coins to grinding through a multi-step bounty. Sorrow, thanks for the heads up on the bounties, I was wondering where that Toland's Journal bounty led to. Should be relatively easy now that I've upped my PvP game for Thorn. Temple and Luke, I'll hit you guys up if I see you online to see if we can knock it out easy. Thanks as always guys!

Here is the full list of current Exotic Bounties and their rewards. IMHO Thorn and Bad Juju are the best (which is funny as they used to be the worst), while Super Good Advice is only really good for killing Oracles in VoG or a fast Exotic Shard. Pocket Nerfinity is just perma-busted and Invective is a good PvP shotgun, if you do not mind giving up an exotic primary for it. A Dubious Task - Reward: Invective [Shotgun with high impact and regens rounds] 1.Talk to Ikora Rey to obtain A Request from Ikora Rey Part I. 2.Complete a total of 5 Strikes without dying to obtain A Request from Ikora Rey - Completed .The 5 strikes do not have to be consecutive. 3.Return to Ikora Rey to obtain A Request from Ikora Rey Part II. 4.Earn a Kills/Death spread of 25 in the Crucible to obtain A Request from Ikora Rey II - Completed. --- (A). Note: A kill or assist is +1 point and a death is -1 points. Earn a total of 25 points. This can be done across multiple Crucible games. 5.Return to Ikora Rey to obtain A Request from Ikora Rey Part III. 6.Complete a weekly challenge mission (Weekly Heroic or Nightfall Strike) to obtain A Clot of Darkness. 7.Return to Ikora Rey to obtain Invective [Uncharged]. 8.Purchase an Invective component from the Gunsmith for 50 special weapon ammo packs to obtain Invective [Charged]. 1.This will cost 12,500 Glimmer. 9.Return to Ikora Rey to finally obtain Invective. A Light in the Dark - Thorn [Handcannon that does a DoT] 1.Complete The Summoning Pits on the Moon. 2.Earn 500 points by killing Hive enemies on the Moon. ---(A). One point per kill. Majors give 20 points, and Ultras give 50. Fastest way to do this is the "we've woken the hive" checkpoint. 3.Use Void Damage to defeat Guardians in the Crucible. Death will slow your progress. ---(A). Must get 500 points. 5 points gained per kill with Void damage. 2 points lost per death. Void damage weapons or Void subclass only. 4.Obtain an Infusion of Light from The Speaker. This will cost one Mote of Light. 5.Talk to Ikora Rey. 6.Kill Xyor, the Unwed. ---(A). Xyor is found in a level 26 version of The Summoning Pits that is only available while this phase of the bounty is active. The Epic modifier is enabled, and matchmaking is not available. Think of a level 26 Nightfall without other modifiers on. ---(B). Phogoth must be damaged enough to trigger waves of enemies but not killed until Xyor appears. She is included in the enemies dropped by the third Tombship. (around 15% Phogoth health remaining) 7.Return to The Speaker to claim your reward. A Voice in the Wilderness - Super Good Advice [Heavy MG that returns most missed rounds to the magazine] 1.Find A Mournful Gun (or A Recalcitrant Gun) by opening loot caches on Mars. 2. Bring the frame to the Gunsmith to obtain A Pleased Machine Gun frame (or A Mournful Gun). 3. Buy an ammunition module from Xûr for one Strange Coin to obtain A Recalcitrant Gun (or A Pleased Machine Gun). 4. Kill 500 enemies with a Machine Gun to obtain An Enthusiastic Gun. --- (A). Kills give 1 point, headshots and sprees give 3 points.. Kills with rocket launchers remove 5 points. 5. Bring the frame to the Gunsmith to obtain Super Good Advice. An Unknown Patron - Fate of All Fools [Scout Rifle - Not actually in game yet ] Shattered Memory Fragment - Pocket Infinity [Full auto Fusion Rifle that is bugged to all get out] 1.Obtain a Damaged Ghost from Venus' Shattered Coast .Found here. 2.Kill a Vex Gate Lord in a heroic story mission to obtain Restored Ghost. This is done in the Eye of a Gate Lord Story Mission on Mars. 3.Bring the ghost to The Speaker to obtain Fusion Rifle Schematics. 4.Bring the schematics to the Gunsmith to obtain Depleted Exotic Weapon Core. 5.Dismantle 10 rare or higher quality Fusion Rifles to obtain Charged Exotic Weapon Core. --- (A). Check the Gunsmith regularly to see if he is selling rare Fusion Rifles. Also Here will email you when he is. It costs around 2400 glimmer per Blue Fusion 6.Bring the cores to the Gunsmith to obtain Unstable Prototype Fusion Rifle Frame. 7.Kill 200 enemies in Weekly Nightfall Strike activities using any Fusion Rifle to obtain Stabilized Prototype. 8.Bring the prototype to the Gunsmith to obtain Pocket Infinity. Toland's Legacy - Bad Juju [ Pulse rifle with full auto, kills reload magazine, recharges super on kills] 1. Complete a weekly Heroic or Nightfall Strike to obtain Toland's Journal [Fragmented]. 2. Bring the journal to Ikora Rey to obtain Toland's Journal [Fragmented]. 3.Complete 25 additional strikes to obtain Toland's Journal [Encrypted]. --- (A). Completing the Weekly Nightfall Strike will count as 3 strikes, and the Weekly Heroic Strike counts as 2, regardless of difficulty. 4.Bring the journal to Ikora Rey to obtain Toland's Journal [Decrypted]. 5.Bring the journal to the Gunsmith to obtain Black Market Coupon. 6.Bring the coupon to Xûr to obtain a Darkness-infused Weapon Frame. 1.This will cost 1 Strange Coin. 7.Bring the weapon frame to the Gunsmith to obtain Darkness-infused Pulse Rifle. 8.Earn 10,000 points in the Crucible to obtain Sated Pulse Rifle. --- (A). A Titan or Hunter kill or assist is worth 25 points, and a Warlock kill or assist is worth 75 Points. 9.Return the weapon to the Gunsmith to finally obtain Bad Juju.

    • Xur will never sell the guns from exotic bounties, so finishing your Thorn bounty and I think Bad Juju bounties are the only way to get them.

    • What if all exotics instead had a bounty to complete to get it instead of straight up RNG? You slick acquire them like all the current bounties, but now there would be a massive pool and you could pick from 6 different bounties instead of 3 (3 random weapons and 3 random armor pieces, perhaps?). Instead of Xür selling the actual item, he would sell bounties and that would "add in" the "earn" factor.

    • Alright so here's the deal, always...I mean always take your exotic bounties, don't second guess just choose one and go with it. I did invective, thorn, pocket infinity, and am currently doing bad juju. The only one I shared was pocket infinity because I never used fusion rifles(that is until I got the plugone.1 so much better in my opinion then the murmur)

      • Considering the overall lack of exotic weapons, I honestly wish all of them came from bounties. Honestly though, I'm not sure if the game developers have enough imagination to make them each a unique bounty outside of "do this x amount of times" The thorn one probably is the hardest to do, and rightfully so, its the best gun you can get for a bounty.

      • Xyor is really super stupid easy now as geared up as everyone is. Try doing it at 27 when your entire team is relying on blue weapons to take it down. At 31 with toys like the VoC, Patience and Time, Icebreaker, 331 machine guns, and exotic armor perks it's a cakewalk. Knocked it out last weekend in like half an hour. The void kills part is also much easier with some VoG weapons. Especially Praedyth's Revenge and Atheon's Epilogue.

      • The 25 strikes part is really easy. Just don't do them from the strike playlist, unless you want the strike playlist rewards. I just redid the moon strike on its easiest setting. Averaged about 4 strikes in 30 minutes and that was with random matched players. I'm working on invective and find it hard to keep enough glimmer in order to buy the 50 special weapon synthesis I have to buy.

        • Not sure if you're aware, but the Exos you get from the Bounties will never be sold by Xur. Thorn's a top-tier weapon and totally worth the effort; I'm at the same point in the chain as you. The other one you have you can do any difficulty for the Strikes so speed running is entirely possible, maybe Nexus or Phogoth. The Heroic and Nightfall both count for more completions; something like 2 for the Heroic and 3 for a Nightfall. After that, you'll need to buy something from Xur, then get 10000 "kill points" in Crucible. You get 75 for each kill, 150 for Warlock kills; unlike the Thorn Bounty, when you get killed you don't loose any points. Some of the Bounties are pretty easy. The one for Super Good Advice took a whopping 3 hours; longest delay there is you need to buy something from Xur to progress and I happened to get the Bounty on a Friday.
