Arrgh. Decisions, decisions and the new exotic/legendary gear about to drop??!
A big shout out and thank you to everybody who replied to my previous question. Was amazing info, ty! I ended up buying the legendary boots and chest piece (which I now gather will be updated/upgraded in the new release).
But now, as a follow up, is everything still relevant with the new gear about to be released ??? Also, I have the following conundrums to which help would be greatly appreciated.
1) Should I wait to buy exotic armour from Xur. Was thinking about buying the Helm of inner most light for my titan striker, but should i wait until next weekend when the new exotics drop?
2) I'm about to level my Vanguard Rep to level 3 to get a legendary weapon. Should i wait again until next week so I have a chance at a new legendary weapon and a commendation?
3) The initial goal was to get a decent level(28) to partake and have fun in the Raid and the VoG, and then max out to lvl 30, but now, I think I read, it will be easier to get to lvl 30 as the max is now 32...??
I suppose the name of the game is having fun and choosing your Destiny, as one guardian pointed out, but to make a school boy error so close to the DLC..hmm.

You can get them now if you want to run raids or anything, or have a chance to powerlvl your gear(put the piece you want to lvl and then put the rest with maxed gear or use the weapon you want to lvl constantly while the situation applies) But if your not going to do this I would hold onto those marks and wait.

Also, buy the helm. It is a great pvp helm and will work fine. I would not max though. Upgrade it through Xur when you can and until then enjoy pounding faces.

For everything EXCEPT the hard raid the current set of gear out will work fine. That is you can get every current weapon up to 300 damage which means your damage will not be mitigated by your weapon level. New exotics start at 302 damage which will do max damage out of the box. Exotic armor will get you to level 30 now. Upgraded they will help take you beyond 30. At level 30 you will not take more damage from level 30 mobs... which is the new weekly and nightfall level... and the normal raid Long story short: current gear, if maxed, is fine till hard mode raid. Current Legendarys, outside of IB and raid gear will take you to 29 if maxed. That works. With that said: DO NOT WASTE ASENDANTS ON CURRENT GEAR. Wait till you get a new Legendary before maxing it and it will take you further for the same cost. Personally, I would wait till Tuesday to get rank 3 vanguard, and instead level something else. That way you will get a new Legendary which should will take you a bit further without spending Assendents to get there.

The gear from the base game will still be relevant in the expansion. You will find it will be better to have the best gear from the base game set you can get, when tackling the early expansion content. Very likely, the gear in the new expansion will begin to outshine the base game gear. But it will be difficult to obtain that new gear, if you aren't sufficiently leveled from the older gear.
