Dear Guardian,
As much as I like to help and encourage people I must stress a few reasons why you SHOULD NOT be taking part in a Raid on The Vault Of Glass.
1. You are below Rank 27.
The lower your Rank, the less damage you can do. And I mean waayyyy less! At Rank 25 you are looking at a 43% reduction in damage output!
2. No Mic.
You refuse to use your mic or you don't have one or people in your house are sleeping. For whatever reason, you are not on your mic. Communication is absolutely 100% critical in the VoG. Sometimes you even need to back out into Orbit to fully discuss and strategize. Impossible if you are not using your mic.
3. Party Chat.
Even worse than not having a mic is not joining (or leaving) a Party Chat. The game volume is less loud when you are in a Party Chat , as opposed to in game chat, so its easier to communicate without everyone raising their voices over gun fights (i.e. the Destiny chat).
If you are in the in game chat and we are in Party Chat then we can't hear you and you can't hear us!
4. Leadership
Only one or two people should be giving out orders and instructions during critical moments and battles. Nobody else should speak over them except to call out things that change the game i.e. Relic, teleports, oracles, strong enemies, health, hazards, situation report, countdown (time's vengeance) etc.
5. Its not a Strike.
People often start playing the VoG and within an hour they are saying that they have to leave for work or to sleep or eat or whatever else.
Please don't start playing if you haven't got the time to spare. This isn't going to be done quickly unless YOU and YOUR WHOLE TEAM absolutely know what they are doing in the VoG.
Every time someone leaves, that person has to be replaced. The new person has to be 'worked in' and that can take a while. If someone else leaves 30mins later and the pattern continues then you can see how things can drag out. Yes, we have a week to complete the VoG and there are checkpoints but that is besides the point. Think about how you are affecting the team. Don't just join to get that one chest and then leave.
6. Weapons, Supers, Builds & Perks
Use what will benefit you and your team. This isn't the time to be using a weapon just because you like the look or sound of it. This isn't the time to be doing your bounties. This isn't where you level up your character. You are facing the Vex. They use purple shields. You need weapons and builds that maximise Void damage to break these shields. You need Titans who are using Defender. Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth and Golden Gun during Boss fights and for Oracles.
Warlocks can go either way. Customise your perks so that they help you and your team to get through. Don't be lazy. Don't be selfish.
7. Be patient with people.
Not everyone knows the ins and outs of the VoG. Everyone on the team should be welcoming to someone who is new to it and take the time to explain things before and as they happen. Don't just kick someone because they got it wrong 5 times in a row. People won't begin to get better until they fully understand what is happening. There are different reasons why the whole team gets wiped. Explain them fully. If things are not going well its a good idea for everyone to regroup in Orbit, ask how everyone is feeling, try to give encouragement and keep morale up. Talk about where things are going well and where things need work. Restock on ammo at the Tower and maybe take a real life break for 5 mins before getting back into it.
8. But I was invited...
Thats fine. If you find yourself in a fireteam of 6 and on route to Venus and you know that you haven't got time or that you are not ready, then please politely let the others know ASAP. That way you can get going to what you really want to do and the rest of the team can start looking for a replacement without anybody having their time wasted. You are helping the team out more by giving notice to leave right at the start. We've all been there. One minute you are doing your own thing then you get an invite to do something that you would rather not do at that time.
Summary
If you are unwilling to follow this advice then you are severely hindering your team's progression within the VoG. Please do the right thing and don't play unless you are willing to do your best to help everyone to get through it.
I am writing this out of love. So that we can all benefit.
Regards,

P.S. If you can think of more reasons why people shouldn't raid just yet, please say below but be constructive.
Thanks in advance!

No mic? I did my first raid on Tuesday and the only thing I said was "Yeah" or "Okay." There was this girl who DID NOT have a mic and she did better than a lot of the other people. The only people that had a mic (and used it) was the raid leader (to tell us what to do) and the douche that assumed he was the runner-up leader. So we don't need SHIT (a mic) to do this and a big -blam!- you to the face.
-
You forgot people with no patience that leave after one wipe.
-
You don't need a mic. If you can hear people, that's the most that needs done. MOST people should have one, but if a couple don't then no harm done. As long as everyone knows what they're doing and listens a mic is not necessary for everyone. Also, when not everyone is a hunter, the invisibility thing in the labyrinth is a bit moot... so long as everyone moves together invis is irrelevant beyond scouting or moving alone. You should add a new bullet point though: Don't be a butthole, even if things aren't going your way. I recently had a guy giving me shit for "not shooting oracles" even though....I was doing exactly that and the only part I'm not 100% comfortable with is the relic and that's simply because I've not done it successfully yet and don't want to be the one holding everyone back when someone better can be doing it.

as always.. youtube is your friend...

To the must have enough time comment. Umm how many people can devote several hors to one grind? I have a job and a family that's just not going to happen for ALOT of people. Communicating that to the team leader totally do able even for non mike users. And the raid does checkpoint for up to a week for this exact reason. Calling for a complete run thru would obviously leave a lot of non hard core gamers from never touching this content which would be a huge loss because it's a lot of fun. To the no mike comment, how can I put this lightly. Not everyone can afford a headset at launch, I personally had not used one in years and had to reinvest in a used one several weeks into the games release. I normal mode it is very easy for one or two experienced players to direct each boss battle and puzzle with either example or with the gesture system. In my teams wave is a count down to be in position and point is used to direct everyone to focus on the boss as it's shield is about to go down. So while I respect your disappointment in some players not meeting your standards remember this game was designed to be more inclusive to many kinds of gamers on all the game types held within Destiny, raids included

I myself would love a crack at VoG but will take the advice in heart as I'm unable to give the time or currently the skill level to be of any help to a team. I do get messages on xbox "need one more for vog" but I do decline them.
-
Can agree with all points except #1. It is hard to progress without raid gear or excessive rep grinding. Everything else though is spot on, including the mic especially
-
pretty reasonable advice. the same stuff can be said for the crucible, i get paired with idiots who just pointlessly charge into the enemy team and get wasted on clash. or for control, everyone runs to capture the A and B points (depending on what side of the map your on) and the entire team but gets wasted and I'm the only one who captured C or A and we're down by like a 1000 points. team work is crucial in this game
-
this is not a strike ? raid is a strike with objectives. go play a WoW Raid and witness the difference.
-
Change it to the guardians who don't have many or no friends to do the raid with...I do the raid with friends cuz they all play this title It was just a bit misleading to me...I would change it to the ones looking for raid teams that's all...otherwise I agree 100%

Edited by ariesdragon123: 10/24/2014 2:14:02 PMWould anyone here be willing to help me learn to Raid? I'm usually on in the morning to afternoon although not today. I am a level 28 warlock.
-
Edited by Dead Eye: 10/25/2014 3:01:21 PMThis is why i don't like the raid that much. There are too many barriers for you to get to the "fun part" and once you do, you end up asking yourself if it really worth this much of a trouble. ... It doesn't

The only thing that drives me crazy is when people are narrating and commenting on their kills... While the rest of us are calling out problem areas (praetorians, clusters of fanatics) Sometimes id rather them not have a mic, they can still listen and just emote when they understand

Why I should not be RAIDING: Look at all those damn rules! I am a wild stallion! I cant be tamed! Actually, I just dont think the time spent for it is worth it, props to those that do.
-
Edited by laxxmann7: 10/25/2014 1:02:32 PMAgree other than the first point. There are people who know what they are doing and can easily run the raid below 27. Also if I already beat the raid then I would be fine with weaker levels joining or if people have to leave before it's over. Gives them a checkpoint, and helps the other low levels learn how to handle the raid.

Edited by FMC: 10/25/2014 1:02:20 PMI have to disagree on n.2, i never used a mic on here, i covered all roles my team mates told me inside Vog; instead of suggesting everyone have a mic, i would say mic only the leader or two top players (well equipped, knowing everything, good connection), because most of times i was in full mic'ed teams it was just more chaotic and less proficient compared to less mic'ed teams; and even more i would pull the fact that there are a lot of people who go in the raid with unupgraded weapons, even lv28s, even primaries... I prefer results instead of chit chat.

#5 is the only reason I haven't done the raid yet.

Edited by Fhaerron: 10/25/2014 10:45:24 AMMic isn't required, I completed it on hard even with a few people not talking. We use party chat mainly because you're still able to talk when you dc in game, but tbh I never had problem of game sound being too high when talking (whenever I get people in my fireteam I actually almost don't hear any game sound anymore, settings/options is your friend here). We all talk during raid and we all call out where oracles and stuff spawn. It's not a strike ofc it's not it's a raid ... but it can be completed it little over an hour I think a group even made it in 40 minutes or something (on normal that is). We never use invisibility on the Gorgons don't even know why the hunters need to use it, it's not like it's hard, and after a bit you just know the route they follow out of your head... and it's a raid, people should read tactics and know what they are doing. Most of your points don't really make any sense, the one thing you must do though is get/find a clan if you don't have one and don't randomly invite people in the tower and add them to friend list. It's stupid to enter the raid with strangers, I've only done the raid with clan members and friends and never we had any issues (my first time I did it I was even not sure on all tactics and we beat it in less then 2 hours). No need to put it up so high, everybody should try the VoG as soon as they are 27 (or get carried by their clan if they are below). The raid is a fun experience and it's surprisingly easy, only hard mode is quite hard.

I shouldnt raid because im below lv27. Really because i was doing normal as a lv25 striker titan and did just fine. Not to mention had all my weapons maxed out to 300.

Having a mic is good but nt required. Ive done raids with people without mics many times. As long as they got skill and know what to do, its all good.
-
I think you should remove the stick some noob shoved in your ass
-
I'm going to have to disagree with pretty much everything here. To tell someone they shouldn't play a specific part of the game because they aren't doing it exactly the way YOU think it should be done is a mite pretentious. I understand that you're just trying to explain some keys to success but it could come off as condescending.
-
A very articulate, fair and accurate post. Good points.
-
You sir are a -blam!- I love bringing anyone in the raid we may die we may not finish but we had a laugh that is all this game if for fun
-
Lvl 26 is fine. 25 is also okay with a good fireteam.
