It would seem that we have a major division in our ranks. Many Guardians would like the universe of Destiny to have many more fantasy and RPG elements to it such as pets, mounts, marriage, and jobs. Other Guardians seem to want this game to be strictly sci-fi and kill people.
Well lets look at what we know...
1. Are there mounts? Yes (in a sense). Bungie has already confirmed these types of things in the form of "Pikes" and "Sparrows"
2. Are there Pets? Well, yes and i dont know. Everybody will have a Ghost and Bungie has alluded to customization and possibly assisted combat. Other than that, we arent sure. We have all seen the concept art with the "Space Tiger" but im not sure if that will be available to have or not.
3. Will there be jobs? Probably not in the sense of crafting and selling or a consistent job. "Jobs" will probably consist of small missions people can do to accumulate Glimmer (which seems to be the currency).
4. What about marriage? No idea, but probably not. That is definitely a VERY RPG element and i dont think Bungie will include that?
So what about you? Where do you stand in this Civil War? Are you for major RPG themes, or are you more for the Shooter element? Or maybe you are somewhere in between. You want a healthy balance of both.
Thoughts?

The RPG elements that are important to me several of which are already in the game from the content I've seen are character customization, skill trees, a decent variety of equipment. It's also important to have that open world feel so you can take on a variety of missions / quests as you progress through the game. It's also important to include various competitive aspects in the game where players can work together either in party or against each other in PvP type zones which adds tremendously to the game's replay value and keeps the players engaged. On the Shooter side I want to have that rush of combat feel that you get in Halo with the cool variety of weapons and other abilities and have missions that put you in unique combat experiences and a good enemy AI that will give me a worthy challenge.

Bring Balance to the force. Luke.

I am preferring a more RPG aspect to this game. I am much more interesting in playing RPG games at the moment. I am very interested in seeing how well Bungie satisfies that need.

Not really a civil war between fans, I would compare it to two kids fighting over a bar of ice cream, except they don't know the flavor, shape or size of said ice cream. Everybody has a different perception of what an "ice cream" is supposed to be or look like (assumptions), somebody may have had a type of ice cream and thinks that type is all there is to it, and others have never had ice creams and have MANY assumptions on what is going to be and taste like. Speculations is fine and dandy, but be real on your expectations. Bungie is creating a new genre, so NOBODY is going to know of what it contains until Bungie spills the beans. And for grunt's sake keep it all the speculation ONE thread, or please can an admin or mod make and FAQ sticky thread with all these questions and answers.

This is a new type of game "the looter shooter!" RPGs and Shooters go together like guns and bullets.

I'm fine with it being a shooter for most of the time. I'm most interested in the relationships you can develop with other characters (npc's). Having a conversation that makes you burst out laughing, learning intimate things about a squadmate (not really sure if there will even be companions or squadmates), those are the most rewarding for me

I would say marriage is not a fantasy thing. "well for some people it will never be a reall thing ether" But in most cases marriage is from all days, and should be a option for people that want to show how they are connected. "I don't see the point of this in the game, but if some people of the commumity want this as a option it can never hurt, but only add to the diversity of the game" Jobs, well it depends, maybe you can do for different factions different type of missions because they a;ll have a different agenda. Like the faction Brotherhood want you to kill alliens, assination, but a different faction wants you to get resourches. (Then it is not really jobs as I am a geat keeper, but more jobs in the sence of different type of missions you prefer to do for a faction with different type f rewards)

I am definitely in support of Destiny being first and foremost a FPS, with rpg elements sprinkled on it. These elements include the open world, weapon customization, leveling, a player based economy, vendors, loot... Things that have been talked about heavily on the forums shouldn't be in destiny for the reasons you stated. They're unnecessary and don't fit in the game.

From what I've seen of the game so far, despite what Bungie said, it has more RPG elements than shooter elements. That being said I'm not mad at Bungie for that but I must admit I don't like the weapon leveling. I want the weapon customization but I don't like the idea of having to level up my guns. Other than that I like all of the RPG elements, especially considering RPGs were my first love game wise.
