Will this compare to Halo?

This comes down to a few things. The Story Halo had such a great story. Will Destiny compare. Halo had many sequels. Will Destiny be a stand alone? If so, they better hope they have a powerful storyline The Gameplay I don't know about you, but I love the gameplay in Halo. You don't die super fast, and it just seems fluid. Judging by the video though, it seems the gameplay in Destiny will be just as good, if not better! The Multiplayer Will Destiny reach the level Halo did in multiplayer? I'm hoping it can find a place in competitive gaming. Halo dominates that region for sure. So the question is.... Will this compare to halo?

  • What it is looking like to me is that Destiny will be a standalone title with multiple "books" and "chapters" to be released. It is looking good so far. Gameplay looks fantastic! As for multiplayer...unprecedented. Its looking amazing!

    • Nothing will ever be better than halo. It's a video game icon for gods sake. But Destiny will be VERY good I'm sure. That's just my opinion though

    • I have a feeling it will beat Halo in every way.

    • Not concerned in the least. Destiny is going to put 343's Halo to shame (not to say it wont be good, i just think Destiny is raising the bar). I think Halo fanatics will enjoy it a lot!

    • When I see destiny I see a combination of three games... Halo, Borderlands, and Mass Effect. And you can tell the obvious Halo influences - space zombies/flood - evil robots/promethian knights - big hulking monsters/hunters - insect like bipedal aliens/elites) And the first thing I thought when I saw those pyramid ships? Dear Lord the Gould are coming strait out of stargate. I don't consider any of this bad however, if the master chief shows up in destiny then yes, that's too far but honestly this game is going to be too fantastic to criticize over similarities in different games aliens! The similarities aren't enough to even notice unless you think about it! I think this game will beat out halo easily, though I loved halo, games that I can keep coming back to and can't beat in 12 hours have a special place in my heart.

    • If anything, Destiny has the potential to have a far greater depth to story than Halo did pre 343i annihilation. I would't say Halo dominates multiplayer in recent times, Halo 4 was incredibly dull after the novelty wore off (about 2 weeks after its release)

    • It has potential to be better then Halo they have been working on it since halo 2 dropped. There is better technoligy new ideas so i guess a big chance it will be a great game but until we all have played it we will know for sure.

I think Destiny will have a main story and then several smaller stories that will fill the world and make it look alive. That will also keep players coming back week after week, month after month, etc. For instance, HALO had a huge lore behind it but I think most of it came from books written by other people (correct me if I'm wrong since I only played the original HALO on PC) and players never got to experience some of that stuff that was on the expanded universe. I think Bungie realized that and that's the reason they added those "books" and chapters to Destiny, so they can build all sort of crazy stories! I hope the main storyline is awesome, I hope it's mysterious and full of little details. And later on, I expect them to add new planets, species and characters to the world in order to give it even more depth! But yeah will it be better than HALO? We'll see... so far we don't know much about the story so hard to tell. In therms of gameplay, i'm not worried i'm sure it will be great, I loved the demo they showed at E3 and i think it can only get better. This will be my first console shooter, so i'm very excited to get my hands-on it.

      • Im more hopeful and excited at this early stage for Destiny then I have ever been for a Halo game. So to answer your question i think destiny will exceed Halo in all three categories. Mythic Sci-Fi FTW!

        • Story and Gameplay wise yes, it does. The story looks fresh and new and the gameplay looks like it is the best of both worlds between halo and CoD. But we know nothing about multiplayer yet. Btw. the solar system evolves, locations changes and that means the game won't be repetitive.

          • I feel the story and gameplay will be far superior. Multiplayer is iffy. I would have to see the actual competitive multiplayer from Destiny before I can make a call on that.

            • Knowing Bungie is the creator of Halo, they have a pretty good idea what they are up against even though it is in different hands now. Since Bungie are smart guys, there is now way they would release a game this potentially epic, that would not AT LEAST stack up against Halo next year and beyond.

            • I think Destiny has the potential to be one of the greatest games we've ever seen. Personally, when its all said and done, Halo won't be able to hold a candle to Destiny at it's finest. I don't think Destiny will need many if any sequels. From what I've been reading and hearing this game will be so self sustaining and update so radically that the gameplay can differ on the same map in the course of a week. Halo needed new planets and weapons and characters. I've heard that Destiny on the other hand has upwards of 1,000,000 weapons. This could be the future of FPS and I think I like what I see

            • We know basically nothing about the story so far, but the universe they've created definitely has a really cool backstory. I think Bungie will make it live up to Halo's story. Gameplay-wise, it looks great. I want it to play like Halo, but not play like Halo. I've always wanted some kind of Halo spinoff that played more like a modern shooter without the crappy casualization. Adding ironsights is a great idea because it seems mostly aesthetic, you can still shoot accurately from the hip and it doesn't seem to slow you down much. Sliding is cool too. Other than that, it looks like it plays like a Halo game. I am eager to see how the multiplayer unfolds though. I loved Halo because it was different than most modern games. It was about equal starts and skill, like strafing and aiming. I think Destiny will hold to that a little where it all boils down to your strafe and aiming. One thing I am unsure about is how loadouts will be handled. I'm not a big fan of loadouts in game, like being able to start the match with a shotgun or sniper or any other power weapon. Destiny is all about customization, so I'm just hoping Bungie can find a way to make good, balanced multiplayer.
