Can anyone help me get better gear?
I need to know what I can do to get a higher light level. I'm currently at 247.

Great tips from below. Another good one is to join public events as much as possible. You can find them on destinypublicevents.com. Add me as a friend GT Soybeanmike and glad to help out a fellow Warlock. I'm on the US east Coast and can help get you up there.

Finish your quests, so you can access everything. Start doing strikes, then heroic strikes, to get blue gear to infuse into what legendary gear you have. Don't forget to align yourself with a faction in the tower, and pick up your rank up packages. Just remember that when doing so, or decrypting an engram, make sure your are at the highest light possible.
