Level 20, Baby!
I know - plenty of people got there WAY before me but It's still a big deal to me! If anyone's interested, this is how I did it:
Thanks to some sound advice on here about selecting the right weapons I:
1 - Stocked up on different Elemental Weapons for making short work of shielded enemies
AND
2 - Went back to the Scout Rifle for increased Impact vs the Pulse Rifle I'd come to use 95% of the time.
What a difference: both of these changes made my attacks A LOT more effective.
I then played through a couple of story levels before taking on three Patrols (two on Earth one on Venus with between 3-5 relevant Bounties active each time. That REALLY racked up the XP.
So, I'm now a Level 20 Warlock with about 550 Defence and a kick-ass 186 Attack Scout Rifle that also has high impact and a decent size magazine.
Also in the process of levelling a frankly ridiculous Machine Gun which already makes short work of pretty much anything.
Ready for the big stuff now ... maybe ... :)

2 Replieswell done! i generally level at least once a day, i normally play for about 3 hours and haven't done any major farming (i may do the earth cave farm tonight though). there is a lot of criticism about the loot but to me it seems it rewards you at a good pace. as you say bounties are key!
