Any racing stories to be told around here?

Basically participated in my first race since I've owned my SS. Started working first this week at my job, and a younger guy about my age drives a tastefully done FR-S. It's 4 lane highway going to work, and we are cruising side by side down the road. I felt like we were having a bro moment, and then we got to a stop light. I gave him a thumbs up, and mid way through my 1st to 2nd shift I could hear him revving the nuts off his flat 4. My reaction was, uh, okay. So I nailed it and watched his headlights get smaller and smaller. I let out of it when I got to the top of 3rd and he actually cruised beside me all the way to work. We parked beside each other and had a good laugh about it. He said he thought I was in an RS till he saw the SS flags waving goodbye to him down the road, and essentially said he wouldn't have bothered if he knew otherwise.

I drive an FJ and some tard in a beat up Jeep Wrangler challenged me to a race on a four lane road. I just drove like normal but he floored it and got pulled over by the cops a mile later. My bro drove a CTS-V to Senior Prom and this guy in an Altima tried to race him so he just shifted to the next gear up and left him in the dust.

    • Walked a guy in a rather loud hawkeye WRX to 2nd and let out because traffic. Also the rear end was wiggling at 40 MPH with the TC on. Then got on the interstate and some brotruck was trying to get me to race him like I need to prove myself by beating someone in a 16 second mall crawler

I could list way to many incidents of street racing here, but I'll refrain for I no longer wish to promote this type activity. Oh who am I kidding. 1986 Ford Mustang GT - Brand new I ruled the streets of our local city in the mid 80's. I only lost once, to a '64 Vette, with a 427, but I had him through the first 2 1/2 gears. Once he stopped spinning his rears, he left me like a cheap date. One night on our normal banzai run looking for whoever was dumb enough to run us, another friend in his Audi went along. We came across a Nissan 300ZX that took the bait. We took off, 3 lanes (all one way streets), and I had both the other 2 cars covered, easily. My buddy (co-pilot) noticed that our Audi friend took off on a side street, and the Nissan backed off, way off. I bring it back down to road speed, and the next thing we know there is a dud in a Mercedes screaming at us and of all things, flashing a badge. We pull into a parking lot, and this guy comes over giving me all manner of discontent with his badge in hand. I smelled alcohol. He notices that I smell the alcohol coming from him. He promptly changes his tune and leaves me just telling me that he better never see me in town again. Another night we ran against another Mustang, but handily had no problem with him (There were 5 of us in the car). But as luck would have it the 2 local PD saw us. Pull us over and begin with the whole spiel on what we were doing and how fast we were supposedly going on his new fangled detection equipment.. The police guy noticed that I have a radar detector (off) and asked 'Was that on when you were driving?' I replied, 'Maybe'. (it was on during the run, of course). They had a trainee with them and they pretty much knew they really had nothing on me, and so did I other than 'reckless driving'. Got a verbal warning and the standard 'Don't let me see you in my town again', and we were on our way. Footnote: IROC's wouldn't run me anymore because they always lost. All they would do when they saw me was to flip me off. HEnce why I still feel all Camaro drivers are dicks. 1972 Mustang Mach I, rebuilt 429. The 86 GT was destroyed in a wreck (not from recklessness either) - had an 83 GT, but just wasn't the same - Got this 72 Mach.... '88 Camaro Z28 full of punks pulls up and sees the '429 Ram Air' decal on the hood. They yell out the window to me at a light, 'No way that thing has a 429 in it'. I just smile and nod. My GF in the passenger seat prepares for the inevitable. Now the Mach was full on massive power, but I didn't have enough after I built the motor to get a Posi. So it was just a 1 wheel drive at that time, which took special care to launch. Light turns green, Camaro takes off. I roll the throttle gently to get a good roll going, but gradually mat it. I catch and pass the Camaro like it's sitting still. We later pull into a local burger joint, and the somehow caught up to talk cars. I pop the hood, and they started singing the praises of big block horse power. The Cobra (2001 SVT Cobra Convertible) For what it's worth, I didn't street race her. Older, wiser, (still a little stupid) I would light up a ricer every now and then, because they were not fully aware of how inept their stuff was and thought they had something for me. Even Mini S's. Bone heads. Get a real car.... But I did take her to some group race events at a NHRA owned track about a few times. I won my class and event times with it, despite being only middle level of all the classes there. I was just consistent. This will be the car I miss the most out of all of them, until the next Mustang hopefully in the not so distant future. EDIT: But really, I don't honestly condone street racing anymore. Take it to a track where it's safer, for everybody. That and you get to run more cars and meet some cool people.

        • Some guy wanted to race me one time, I shook my head and ignored him but he was clearly going to go through with it. He guns it as soon as the light turns but gets stuck behind some cars and I just casually pass because my lane is open. He switches lanes to catch up with me then tries to pass me on the left side in a turn, his truck starts to fishtail pulling towards the oncoming lane where a bus full of kids is parked for a drop off. The idiot slams on his breaks before he hits the bus and I just continue on my way winning the race I wasn't even trying to win.
