Halo 4 System Link - Help pl0x

Does anyone know how to make this work? I tried connecting two XBs with an ethernet cord, and then selected system link for the network type. I couldn't find the other system. Help, meh.

So you plugged both ends in and then selected system link, I assume. I believe that you need a router to run it. Any cheap one will do but I think that is the issue. Don't quote me on it as I haven't actually set one up before.
