Scientists have discovered a second code hiding within DNA. This second code contains information that changes how scientists read the instructions contained in DNA and interpret mutations to make sense of health and disease.
A research team led by Dr. John Stamatoyannopoulos, University of Washington associate professor of genome sciences and of medicine, made the discovery. The findings are reported in the Dec. 13 issue of Science. The work is part of the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements Project, also known as ENCODE. The National Human Genome Research Institute funded the multi-year, international effort. ENCODE aims to discover where and how the directions for biological functions are stored in the human genome.
Awesome.
It blows my mind that we're still discovering things about our bodies.

Fascinating.

Id bet, this discovery is barely scratching the surface of the potential information stored within our dna. Afterall, its been in the making for a very long time.

Edited by A Metroid: 12/14/2013 10:44:20 PMIt's obviously evidence of God existing.
hue
Yep, that's my school! UW >
DNA is an incredibly powerful information storage device
Sooooo, where's my new hard drive for my computer?

I don't know about you guys, but I totally trust Dr. John Stamatoyannopoulo to unlock the secret to our DNA. But really, that name is just.....awesome.
It blows my mind that we're still discovering things about our bodies.
I would love to discover things about your body as well.

Finally!!! A useful discovery! People should put more time into researching things like this instead of stupid things like fetishes.

Edited by Ashed-up: 12/14/2013 10:12:20 AMI love seeing the comments below that article and you see people arguing because one person started with a god reply.
this information is really cool though. I hopes it leads to curing of illnesses
Biological Immortality or GTFO.

Edited by Faliz18: 12/14/2013 4:57:31 PMThat's really cool. My health class still has a book from 2007 though so I don't expect anyone to know about it for years to come though.

The second code isn't new. Figuring out how to read it is. Good stuff.
-
This is fantastic! Gotta love science.
-
I don't think God is OK with us playing with this.
-
Maybe they'll find the code in the genome which causes a lot of diseases and cure them.
-
We learn something new every day.

Most of the people on this forum are still discovering things with their bodies. But no, this is actually really cool, hopeful it could (potentially) be a right step in the direction of curing Cancer and other previously uncurable diseases.
-
So the Human Genome Project doesn't show all of the genes then? Lovely.

This is interesting, but the article gives so little information that I almost thought they were talking about histone modifications.
