Steven Simpson, 18, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, died after sustaining "significant burns" last June.
Jordan Sheard, 20, of Darfield Road, Cudworth, received a three-and-a-half-year sentence at Sheffield Crown Court.
The court heard how Mr Simpson was bullied at his celebration and tanning oil was poured over him by other people at the party before he was set alight.
Mr Simpson, who had Asperger's Syndrome and learning difficulties, was bullied during the party at his flat in Cudworth due to his disability and sexuality, prosecutors had said.
A judge heard how he was told to take off his shirt and encouraged to dance around before having obscenities scrawled on his body.
Sheard, who was egged on by others, set light to the teenager's groin area after he was sprayed with suntan oil in the early hours of 23 June.
Mr Simpson was taken to a specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield, but died two days later.
Crown Prosecution Service lawyer Tim Warburton said the teenager had recently started college where he was studying life skills and had made some new friends, who he had decided to invite to his party.
Det Ch Insp Sean Middleton said: "Steven was described by all who know him as a very caring and likeable young man, whose family will miss him greatly.
"His generous spirit was taken advantage of and a single thoughtless act resulted in his death."
The perpetrator got 3.5 years in prison for manslaughter. I personally think that that is far too lenient, but what do you all think?

It's almost like homosexuals need their own Mossad.
-
Disgusting. 3.5 years is not enough.
A judge heard how he was told to take off his shirt and encouraged to dance around before having obscenities scrawled on his body.
And the dumb ass didn't think that was odd at all? "Oh yeah, sure, I'll take my shirt off and let you pour oil over me. Hey guys, what are ya doing with that lighter?"
-
Sad thing is he probably won't even serve his 3.5 years :/
-
And people say there is no such thing as a hate crime. Such bullshit. Its not my justice system, so I'll restrain myself from criticizing it. To be honest, that sentence is a touch light.
-
That's not manslaughter. That's murder, no question.
-
As someone with Asperger's, I understand how hard it is to interact socially. I understand him getting bullied for that, but bullied because he's gay? That's just plain bigotry. Say what you will about homosexuality but the moment you inflict physical pain on another individual your argument becomes invalid.

How can you sentence that guy to only 3 years in prison for burning a man alive? He lit him up intentionally and deliberately. He should be -blam!- by large -blam!- right now in a prison shower.
-
Was he hot?
-
(•_•) I guess you could say that... ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) He was a flamer
-
3.5 years for burning a kid alive (which killed him) because he was gay is hardly even a punishment at all. Whoever did this deserves more justice than that. I don't know what justice they should get, but I do know that 3.5 years is not enough.
-
Bigots, bigots everywhere.
-
The perpetrator got 3.5 years in prison for manslaughter.
Wait, what? That's obscene!
-
3 and a half years for burning someone to death? 20 years - life in prison sounds more appropriate.
-
Are they sure it was because he was gay or because those guys were drunk or something?
-
Nice to see people cleansing the world
-
Brrrr, it's cOLD in here

Just natural selection doing its job.
