Xbone preload Destiny

I just read or saw a video that Destiny will be available to preload before the game comes out not just front he PS4 but the xbox one! Has anyone done this before? Does it just install the game but you still need the disc to play? But saves you close to an hour of install and patch downloads? http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/27/destiny-will-be-eligible-for-pre-loading-on-xbox-one
