  • Sorry, but there's no evidence to pointing as to what the Traveler really wants.

    • Awesome topic! I agree the original piece was written as the traveler as an evil being and it has been reworked so we don't know if it is good or evil. I think MatPat's interpretation of the fallen hunting the traveler for revenge was different. My interpretation is that the fallan want the traveler for themselves which explains why they wont just destroy the freakin traveler. We are just standing in their way. And yes the hive are evil. Reading the calcified fragments grimoire is like reading the Bible for the hive. Its really interesting and cool but yes they are evil. And they also give great insight on the vex as well.....

      • There's no misunderstanding with the fallen. They were once a united species until the traveler came, and left. When the traveler left, it did so in a hurry and without defending the species that it asked to defend it. Now the fallen are divided into several houses, have no home, and have (as their name suggests) fallen from greatness. Even if the traveler was just going around giving free tech that doesn't make it good if everywhere it goes it brings death, destruction, and strife in its wake. Furthermore, where does it get the tech? Ever heard, "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch?" How would you feel if our tech was made from Fallen slaves of the traveler? Or taken from the fallen when it deserted them? Plus our guardians don't even have free will. We get revived from the dead, get told to do defend an entity (that has a history of desertion) with our new lives, and they just do it. Without question none the less. I'm not saying it's evil, but if you think it's good than you're just blind.

Let me educate you on good and evil ... Good and Evil are nothing but subjective value opinions from the perspective on an individual ego or group ! There is no objective Evil or Good ! So your statements on good and evil hold no ground ! To the Hive we are EVIL... To the Guardians ... the Hive are Evil Etc, etc, etc.. So one thing can be both good and evil depending on the perspective. Furthermore the Travellers Utopia might be OUR HELL ... So you still dont know shit ! I hope this enlightens you a bit !

I disagree on the traveler staying here willingly. Didn't Rasputin slap the shit outta him and force him to stay? Edit: After scrolling through some responses I have decided to withhold my Judgement on the Rasputin/Traveler leaving debate as we don't have enough information

I agree the Traveler is not "evil". The Books of Sorrow make it pretty clear on what the "evil" in the Destiny universe is. However that does not make the Traveler "good" either. In the past it has abandoned species in the past when it was clear the Darkness would win leaving them to die (this was the case of the Fallen). It would have done the same with us if Rasputin hadn't stopped it from leaving, forcing the Traveler to make Ghost to find Guardians which gave humanity and the Light the greatest chance of standing up against the Darkness since the fall of the Fundament.

                • While the survival of the fittest ideology supports this, I wage war against nature. Why do the weak die? Are they morally unfit to life? In true equilibrium, equality is brought through equal peace, or equal death.

                • In a recent interview Joe Staten's original story had the traveler as a secretly evil entity. When Jason Jones and other Bungie heads saw the super cut they decided it was to predictable and changed it. Honestly , this is the oldest story trope in history , (good guy is actually evil). I am so glad Bungie changed this aspect of the story as people were already theorizing about this before the game even released.

                • A) Luke smith could not confirm or deny that the Traveler is evil... (hint hint.) B) This was all obvious stuff from year one grimoire.

                    • Hmm.... The Hive considering the Darkness good? I'd think all the bones that litter their caverns tells another story. The Hive are definitely evil but will admit that doesn't mean the Darkness is. I would tend to think of the Traveller and the Darkness like Yin and Yang where the Traveller creates through the Golden Ages of races and the Darkness tears everything down leaving the strong to rebuild and reforge themselves better. Likely there is a neutral player inbetween that trys to keep either side from getting too powerful but don't think we have seen this player or this third party has been taken out of action and is licking it's wounds. Might explain why the Darkness has been chasing the Traveller so long. Perhaps the third party were the dragons. I think they were known as the Ahamkara but I'm not sure. I don't think the neutral third party would be The NIne because with Xur they are obviously too meddlesome to be neutral and likely have some motive and agenda of their own.

                      • Everything is subjective. The traveler does have a nice army of undead soldiers fighting for it. We couldn't get taken but where is our awoken/Exo/humanity?

                          • There is no answer, I doubt even Bungie knows, and even if there was, what are the chances it would be changed again. So much residue from the original story change, I would guess Bungie is still trying to figure out where to head at this point.
