The Traveler evil? Probably not, a coward and in it only for itself? Most likely. When the darkness hit the fallen houses the traveler just up and left because it didn't think they could defend it anymore. Some lil clues in grimoire and such makes me believe that the traveler was going to abandon us too when Rasputin crippled it... So it all leads to perspective, but in the end the traveler is just looking for a meat-shield.

I doubt the traveller is evil, he is just intelligent and knows that he needs to gather an army and arm it sufficiently to defend itself. That doesn't mean it's necessarily a good guy though. This game is basically about two superpowers fighting each other and mankind being caught in the middle. We will work with the traveller now, but when the traveller wakes up we might have to watch out and switch sides or break free.

1 ReplyYeah I'm not sold. You bring up valid points for sure, and no one can argue that there is a definitive answer yet. The way I see it, "evil" is a point of view. Evil or not, I think our ultimate goal will be to break free from the light and the dark to be rid of their conflict.

2 RepliesI always thought the traveller as a generous guest being hunted. He will lavish you until those who want him dead arrive, and flees if it believes you are unable to defend it. My only point of confusion is its inexplicable early departure from the home of the fallen.

6 Repliesas I understand it, the traveler isn't evil, but it definitely has commitment issues. it tried to ditch us like all the other fallen civilizations when the darkness showed up but then rasputin was like "you're goin' NOWHERE" and nuked it into slumber

13 RepliesYou are aware that the traveler actually was a wuss and was trying to leave? The traveler is still on earth because Rasputin shot him down. The traveler gives races golden ages, then runs when the darkness gets too close (same with what happened to the Fallen).

I never thought the traveler was evil. That story was for the old plot line since that has changed I think it's a good guy. And mat pats video was bad. He mentioned stuff that was out of context

The two sides of this debate have been arguing past each other ever since the Game Theory video, mostly due to Mat presenting the theory as Destiny's secret plot, rather than Destiny's lost plot. The truth is obviously that the evidence used in the video does support the theory that in an older draft of the story, the traveler was going to be evil. Later evidence, which was not taken into account in this video (more than likely because he wrote the script before TTK dropped) proves that in the current iteration of the story, the traveler is not evil. End of debate.

2 RepliesHistory is told by the victors. The traveler is only good because we say so. The "story" of this game is so vague that it leaves anything to speculation. Also, the speaker is very mysterious and cryptic and doesn't clarify much. How can guardians be the "good guys" when they slaughter leaders of entire races and farms the remaining ranks for weak weapons and armor? It's ok to believe the traveler is good… but like MattPat said, what alien species would help out humans for nothing in return. Also, why would the traveler help out earth if it knew devastating forces tailed it throughout the universe?

4 RepliesI agreed with everything but the last part. That is the purpose of the hive, we don't know yet the true reason as to why the traveler provides golden ages and why the darkness brings about dark ages.

I agree with you and those are very nice arguments. The Traveller is definitely not evil. A plot twist like that would be a really big let down I think. Also, sometimes Xûr says "Your Traveller has a dark mirror" or something like that. An agent of the Nine would know pretty much everything and if there's a "dark mirror" then our Traveller can't be evil
