A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by the editors of an online magazine called The Quail Pipe to write an article expanding on some thoughts I'd shared on Twitter re: the line between female objectification and healthy female sexual expression. I was thrilled to be given such an opportunity, and had a real blast writing the article. I spoke to friends of mine who are sex workers, adult film stars and topless models in order to get their perspectives on this issue, as I wanted to present a side of the objectification vs. sexuality debate that is often silenced.
Here's the result: Body Politics and the Curious Case of the Page 3 Girl, published this morning. (Don't worry - despite the topic being discussed, it's perfectly safe for work.) I'm fairly proud of my rookie effort as a semi-pro writer, and I hope you enjoy the article and that it gives you a little food for thought. :)

congrats.

I don't like you as a person, but I'm not so pigheaded that I can't recognize a well written article when I see one. My only criticism is that you may have written it too well, as in, you should think about dumbing it down a bit. Readability at a lower level tends to increase exposure. Other than that, it was a good read and well worded position on the matter. Bravo.

Edited by Player3Th0mas: 7/10/2013 5:39:59 PMIt seems like you've not actually ignored this item. We can't unignore something you've not ignored! What? Anyhow, good article.

Congrats! I really liked the article.

Great. It was well-written and I learned a bit, thanks!

Edited by Oneironaut: 7/10/2013 5:37:28 AMThe following is completely off topic but I don't care. I'm on the Explorer app on the xbox right now since my computer is being dumb, and as soon as I clicked on all topics I saw a hidden post at the top of the page (with the script I have on my PC I normally don't see hidden post) so I was wondering what it was. As I clicked it the first thing I saw when it expanded was "jaythenerdkid" which caused me to burst into laughter 'cause I didn't even hide the thread. That just shows how disliked she is if her thread became automatically hidden. I'm sorry, but I just found that to be hilarious... What is this thread even about? More self centered bs?

Congrats, that was great! Are you planning on writing more articles like this?

Edited by Uncle Putin: 7/9/2013 6:43:18 PM
sex workers
Prostitutes?
adult film stars
Hardcore porn starts?
topless models
Softcore porn stars? Those are some nice friends you've got there. Besides that, I'm very happy that you're experiencing success, unlike the majority of no-lifers on here.

Congrats! Good diction, it really gets straight to the point of an issue that so many people ignore.

Yay! congrats Jay!

Edited by A Metroid: 7/9/2013 8:56:27 PMBe more specific, that was hard to read because of the lack of details and good descriptions.

Congrats on the publication!

A nice piece Jay, and congratulations on being published!
-
Congrats on being published! Why is this thread hidden anyway?
-
Interesting. People should be free to do what they want, but it's just a few idiots who ruin it on both sides of the issue.

inb4 buttmad. oh too late it seems. anyways, congrats :)

Gratz, Jay.

That felt like you were less emotionally involved in the writing then normal, but the article came across very well. Enjoy journalism, and I encourage you to keep it up.

I'll get the small criticizing out of the way first, but i thought i saw a part where quotations should have been needed to show dialogue, maybe you felt that it didn't need to be shown as someone else speaking like there should be quotes for it, but just letting you know since I'm just finicky when it comes to grammatical and spelling issues like that. Still, great article and a very informative read, i'll try to send it around to people i know to get it recognized cause it's definitely a very truthful and great piece of writing.

>six replies >downvoted and hidden Mains, I am immensely disappoint. And further disappointed that I am completely unsurprised.

Congrats!

Congrats! That was a great read. Never did understand the mindset of those who believe if a woman wishes to "show off" her body, or use it for things you've listed in the article, she don't deserve respect.
-
Congratulations. That was a very well-written article, I agree wholeheartedly with it as well.
-
That was actually a fairly interesting read. Surprising since I usually skim through that stuff.

Congrats on the article.
