Is there a reason? Or, much like a child who has had some traumatic bowel motion experiences, are they afraid of #2?

Because of warheads on foreheads.

We're not the smartest or wisest, but we're definitely the strongest. The cultural climate of America has always been "Beat the bad guys" think Cowboys vs. Indians. After WWII, everyone in the US was living it up and partying, because we honestly believed that we had saved the entire world. Through war. We are just a little more barbaric, apparently. Honestly, if every country out there ganged up on us with non-nuclear weapons, the might of our military could probably take on the entire civilized world. It's ridiculous. Just the size of the US Navy alone is staggering. So I think that's the overarching attitude. We have the mindset that we need to kill something in order to be the "hero" and so we're always searching for something to kill. When I see a "Go army!" meat head driving an unnecessarily enormous truck in a big city, I think "Look at me! Go Army! I can't cope or be successful in a peaceful society!" It's the same for the United States.

Nationalism- everyone has a right to be proud of and believe their nation is the greatest. There's a difference between pride and ignorance. I can be proud of the country I was born and raised in, of the culture I've inherited, but I would be ignorant to believe that it is absolutely perfect, or that it is vastly superior to all other nations. I am a citizen of humanity, before anything else.

It used to be the greatest country in the world, but now it is begiinning to suck because it is becoming more and more like European countries.
-
Why don't foreigners think that the US is the greatest country in the world? If they don't they're clearly delusional and in dire need or re-education.
-
Since it's apparently not the US, what is the greatest county in the world?
-
Because if I controlled the media in this country, I could have everyone thinking that airplanes run on pigs. And that the greatest country in the world is Pig. Anything
-
its more of a matter of opinion really. We Americans say that were the best cause we are insecure that we might not actually be the best
-
Because propaganda.

I'm a Sangheili living in Florida... I have no complaints except the small number of humans who wander around my property.

I'm an American and I think the U.S. is pretty crappy. So crappy that I want to move to Canada in the near future.

>implying America is a legit country

We have fooled ourselves. We have too many mental barriers in our minds. People need to stop recognizing borders and realize we are a species on this one planet. Pride is something you achieve, it isn't based on accidental birth location.

I don't.
-
same reason why brits think england is the best
-
I'm an American and I know for sure that America isn't the greatest country in the world.
-
That's ridiculous. I'm not American and I think that America is the greatest country in the world, silly.

Edited by Uncle Putin: 2/12/2013 12:56:38 AMWell it depends on how you define "best". In terms of military, we are the superpower of the world. In terms of things like freedom, rights, opportunity etc, there are plenty other countries like us. Great Britain, France, Spain, Australia, Germany, Canada, Japan, Belgium, Normandy, Norway, Poland, Sweden. They all have freedom and rights. America is not the only country that has freedom. We have the biggest economy, but that is soon to be surpassed by China. America has created some of the most important and significant inventions of the world. We made the telegraph, the light bulb, the revolver, the atom bomb (although the "greatness" of this can be disputed), the production line, the internet, powered flight, the suspension bridge, digital computer, microwave oven, the integrated circuit, GPS, the list just goes on and on. So in the respect of modern inventions, we are the single greatest country in the world. However, there are some things like corruption, abnormally high murder rate, terrible welfare system, massive debt, obesity, terrible education (we're ranked something like 27th in the world for mathematics) etc that can all arguably make us one of the WORST first world countries in the world. So it all depends on where you look at it. Our legacy is great. Our future is not.

because they've never visited anywhere else?

Kinda hard to argue when our country was founded by people fleeing other countries for freedom. Religious oppression was still a big deal in europe and many other places and still is today. Most people flee to America so I'd have to say its the best place because its where everyone wants to go.

Five stars, my friend.

What we call 'Patriotism' is really more akin to radical nationalism in Europe. The only major difference is that we're the only superpower and we aren't afraid to demonstrate our reach every few years. We take a lot of pride in knowing that, so pardon the swagger. We're just as intolerable as the rest of the Imperial Powers were, except our experience in both World Wars wasn't traumatic enough to make us stop being pompous jackasses.
-
Its patriotism really for them. I'm from the U.S. but I don't think its that great. Its one of the best but not the greatest country in the world.
-
Cause 'Merica and lets face it, there America is a pretty nice place to live... Might not be much better off than most places in the world, but I'm comfortable here. If we could just do something about those education standards I'd join the rest of the bandwagoners in screaming AMERICA!!! -[blam!]- ya!.
