Apparently republicans are mostly concerned with the enforcement of immigration laws rather than the reworkings of them, but luckily the bill includes the extra enforcement they're so keen on, so the majority of republicans (and democrats) are actually both for this bill, which is something we haven't heard in a while.
The president, in his speech, specified three pillars of immigration reform: better enforcement of immigration laws, providing a path to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants already in the country, and reforming the legal immigration system.
To earn the opportunity for citizenship, Obama said undocumented immigrants must first pass a background check, learn English, pay a penalty, and then get "in the back of the line" behind people trying to come to America legally.
Millions of undocumented immigrants would get immediate but provisional status to live and work in the United States, under the compromise plan crafted by the senate group. That outline also called for strengthening border controls, improved monitoring of visitors and cracking down on hiring undocumented workers.
Why don't you guys just deliver some mob justice against non-whites? Works well here.

See, the Senate isn't the problem. That half can sometimes work together easily and get stuff done. The problem is when you get to the House, where nothing gets done. Ever.

Edited by Quantum: 1/30/2013 1:34:47 AMIt will be Obama's biggest victory if it passes. Immigration has always been the driving force behind America, and a good piece of legislation will ensure that this will remain the case.

So, did they finally get off their ass and pass it? We pay our legislators to pass laws. When they agree on them they should just do their damned jobs instead of posturing in front of the damned cameras like professional wrestlers.

i find it really funny part of the "reform" is enforcing what already exists. other then how stupid that in itself is, the "That outline also called for strengthening border controls, improved monitoring of visitors and cracking down on hiring undocumented workers." sounds good.

Edited by WickedNavajo: 1/30/2013 2:09:11 AMI can actually agree with those reforms. Hopefully they implement it. It will help everyone.

Dat Hispanic vote. The bipartisan Senate plan is a good sign, but House Republicans might not be so eager to get on board. They've got their own reelections to think about.

Yes, I hope it works out.

Here's to hoping this works out.
