The Formidine Rift in ED is a place in the galaxy where some kind of (alien) secret lies that neither the Federation or Empire want people to find. The Rift has never been found but we know it has been in the game since release, and is somewhere inbetween the New Galactic and the Outer Perseus Arms.
We also know Frontier has no plans revealing it, meaning it is up to us, the players, to find it. Whether you are an experienced explorer or a beggininer, we need more Rifters out in ED.

All those quotes from the book (in the thread you linked) reference going beyond the rift and that it isn't even on the map. I think you're going to have to find the stars yourself as they aren't even on the galaxy map. Maybe they'll appear in navigation when you're close enough? Also it says that there's dozens of light years between stars. Any explorer going there better have a high jump range.

I love that feeling when you realize how much of a minnow you really are in a game. I support myself by patrolling waypoints and resource extraction zones and have very little clues what goes on outside of that.

I believe Ps people will be getting elite yes? When that happens I'll get back on and hopefully they sync with our world and them we will be able to focus on exploration. I'm not sure I can do much exploring though. I feel lonely easily last time I was an explorer :(

How steep is the learning curve for this game? I'm really interested in getting it. Plus is it wise to wait until Horizons hits xbox before I buy?

Group journey to the rift after Zamka falls?
