So I had an idea for a huge event that could happen, and it came to me from the battle of the Twilight Gap. So around the time Comet (1.5) comes out, we could have the Hive attempting what they've been planning since we found them on Earth, a full scale invasion.
Have the Hive attacking the city and we, as guardians, need to defend it. We could capture control points, kill enemies, and take back parts of the city. Make it an open world, timed event. The whole thing could last a week, with a different objective each day and an award for people who play every day.
We could build on lore and have different high profile guardians leading the attack,, like Shax, Saladin and the Vanguards. It could play out really interestingly and would be a major part of the world building this game so desperately needs.
Also, and this is just an aside, Bungie could use it to introduce new vehicles and siege weapons for players to get accustomed to.
Let me know what you guys think or if you have an ideas to add

I'm hoping that this will be what Destiny 2 will be like. I think its a little late in the day for new code on this scale but I agree totally, this would be a superb idea. My thoughts were: 1. Public events to occur in the tower. Along similar lines to yours but wouldn't require the same level of coding so I figure this would probably be more likely to happen. 2. Xur to sell bounties. These would be long run in nature as they would be designed to take serious play to complete. So were talking 25 public event gold medals or something of that nature. Completion of these bounties would be the only way to unlock the opportunity to buy tier 1 exotics from him. So you would need an experience level with Xur (lets say 5) to gain access to his most sought after items (Gjallarhorn, IB, Suros etc). I'd expect it to take people a long time to get to level 5 this way so it makes the weapons rewarding and i would increase their rareness by removing them from the RNG tables.
