Last night, I was finishing up my Atheon kills on all my characters to end the week.
First two went smoothly, then I went on my 32 hunter and found a random team. (yes shoot me I don't have friends on all the time)
The team consisted of 3 32's 2 31's and a 30. I should not have assumed, but did that at least 2 people will be able to handle the relic. Turns out, we spent an hour and never got it done because I was teleported once everytime, the second time the relic holder always died.
As a 32, you should be able to handle the relic on atheon and on the templar. Some of you might say "but we never get the chance to". Go into normal mode and train yourself.
Some of you also might say "oh ha, scrub you should get him in one go anyway". Tell that to the people that think word of crota/plan c is doing a lot of damage on Atheon.
Point is, 32's AND 31's AND 30's should be able to or at least try handling the relic. It's not really that hard.
What do you guys think? I want to hear your thoughts on those that have had the same problem as me or from the people that haven't learned how to use the relic.

On Atheon, the relic holder only job is to cleanse and take out little mobs in Venus. Hunter can take care of the mars with his golden gun and a nova bomb and fist of havoc or golden gun can take care of the Venus minotaur. Just let relic holder take care of the small mobs in Venus. If you let relic holder kill all mobs on both side, you doing it wrong.

I put a random group together that insisted they needed three people to do left confluxes. So I solo'ed right. One of the died. We sent one one the middle guys left. They were still getting sacrifices
-
I had a smiling experience. That's why I don't necessarily agree with the whole vendor gear thing. Anyone can be a 31 now. It's ridiculous.
-
While I generally agree (especially over 30) I didn't know how to use it for a long time because I always ended up with a group who never let anyone else use the relic. I finally got enough chances to learn it but sometimes it takes awhile.
-
I -blam!- with both the sword and shield. Guess that's also why I was always designated to do shield before the random patch.
-
People being scared or unfamiliar with the relic isn't there fault, it's the 5 other impatient fu*kers that pressure you when they won't even pick it up themselves. If someone hasn't got relic experience but is brave enough to give it a go then you need to support him not pressure him
-
Tbh i dont think the relic is complex or as hard to use as some make out. I run relic on templar and atheon if im ported. I cant get over the fact this is still even and issue. It has about 5 functions. The sword on CE though thats about timing aswell ... Much harder!
-
So if you look at my chars, I only have 19 clears total...this is between VoG and CE. It isn't a lot. Miniscule really. Most of my runs are just for specific parts so I can get gear I need. I've used the relics in VoG and the sword on Crota. You know what? It wasn't hard...but the important thing for me was that when it was my first time trying, I had someone who patiently explained the encounter to me, and I listened. If you were having issues, and it took an hour, at what point did you stop the group and go over the mechanics of the relic-holder? I know whenever I host a VoG raid I make sure I ask everyone if they're familiar with the relic. If not, I'll ask them if they want to give it a go, and I'll ask them if they need a crash course. It takes maybe 5 minutes to do this, and it can save a group a lot of time. If you did all of this and it still failed, that's too bad. Hopefully you'll find a more capable group in the future.
-
I agree that you should not be in hard mode if you do not know how to use it. I also agree people can get to 31 without ever doing VoG and that could cause problems. So I always ask before we start and if not at least 4 people know how to use it, I am out. If you don't know it, that's fine. Run normal and learn it. Really is not hard. 3 buttons are all you ever use with it.
-
I think it comes down to teamwork. A good team of 30s and 31s are better in VOG HM than a team of 32s that can't work together. Same in Crota, however, I'll say on HM you need a good team of 32s which is hard to find especially if you have 1-2 good 31s. It's supposed to be hard. Teamwork makes it easier.

get a templar checkpoint and just practice there even solo on the harpies, preto etc.. after 30 mins practicing solo you will be a relic expert..
-
In my experience level does not dictate experience. You can get to 31 with vendor gear and you could get to 32 on normal Crota with little fuss with Cheesing. I hear lots of people saying "I saw this guy on youtube" but in practical terms have no idea. Bungee should never have let people buy level because in all practical terms you only need to be level 32 to do hard Crota. At least before TDB it was almost a given that if you were raiding with 30's there was a high chance they all knew what they were doing all be it at different skill levels. I would rather someone tell me they were not sure how to do something as I am more than happy to talk people through.
-
I'm 31 on 2 character, but I will never be handling the relic during Atheon.
-
I m level 31 and I do try and train myself and when I do take the relic people do things like not kill oracles on purpose so we die and I get the blame so someone else can take the relic from me
-
I have some experience with Relic as a 31, mainly on atheon where you cleanse and take down. However I have no clue how to shoot the thing that takes down the shield on Templar...
-
I hate seeing people use their supers on aetheon it does no damage. Insta kick if they don't listen. Ice breakers, black hammers or Ghorns baby.

Edited by FlyingHotPot: 2/8/2015 5:44:15 PMLight level means jack in Destiny. You can get to level 32 without ever entering or completing VoG or even CE hard mode. Just buy the level 31 gear from vendors and solo first 2 parts of CE normal mode until you have enough radiant shards to get to 32 with one exotic piece. Total raid completion and to a certain degree grimoire score, are the only indicators that will tell you how experienced a player is with raiding.
-
Thats because most of those people either bought the vendor gear or only did crota and never did vog. If I do vog anymore, seeing a full team of 30+ means nothing anymore. Always gotta inspect everyone first and its sad
-
Edited by SleekRiot: 2/8/2015 5:23:47 PMThe only thing difficult using a relic(I've used it countless times)Is the mars portal during atheon on hard. Hobgoblins still kill you incredibly fast, kinda annoying imo.

People suck
-
It's EASY.
-
I just tried to run hm Atheon on my girlfriend's account with a bunch of randoms. They were all level 31 with no idea of what they were doing. I looked at their weapons and saw weapons between 240-278 damage. We tried for an hour, couldn't get it done. If anyone has this same problem on xb1, add me, sdsox321. I'm always looking for people to run Crota and vog with week after week
-
I personally love using the relic
-
This goes back to my main issue, with the faction gear outclassing VoG gear, these 30+'s may never have had to do anything hard in VoG. Does it make them all bad? No ofcourse not. But it does mean alot of players get alot less experienced.
-
As a 32 i know everything, every strategy, how to use the sword and the shield...
-
I was forced to use the relic thanks to being invited to teams that didn't know how to. At the time I was pissed but now I feel grateful for learning how to use it.
