Last night, I was finishing up my Atheon kills on all my characters to end the week.
First two went smoothly, then I went on my 32 hunter and found a random team. (yes shoot me I don't have friends on all the time)
The team consisted of 3 32's 2 31's and a 30. I should not have assumed, but did that at least 2 people will be able to handle the relic. Turns out, we spent an hour and never got it done because I was teleported once everytime, the second time the relic holder always died.
As a 32, you should be able to handle the relic on atheon and on the templar. Some of you might say "but we never get the chance to". Go into normal mode and train yourself.
Some of you also might say "oh ha, scrub you should get him in one go anyway". Tell that to the people that think word of crota/plan c is doing a lot of damage on Atheon.
Point is, 32's AND 31's AND 30's should be able to or at least try handling the relic. It's not really that hard.
What do you guys think? I want to hear your thoughts on those that have had the same problem as me or from the people that haven't learned how to use the relic.
-
I was forced to use the relic thanks to being invited to teams that didn't know how to. At the time I was pissed but now I feel grateful for learning how to use it.
-
I ask everyone before the raid. I'll always pick up the relic templar or atheon bit it's nice to know if I have support if I don't get teleported
-
-
Vog is obsolete so it's a waste of time you should be training with the sword
-
Just go in the portal and handle that shit.
-
Both my characters are 31's and don't really know how to use the relic, BUT I want to! It's hard because everyone just wants to get the raid done, there's no time to practice with the relic. Whenever I pick it up I seem to fly all over the place with it, then get killed trying to kill stuff. Is there a good way to learn fast? I'd love to be a relic holder! :(
-
That's why I don't like starting at atheon. At least then you can be sure someone else can use it.
-
Yeah its kinda sad that so few people can use it.
-
My only problem with this is even on Hard, my level 31 Hunter gets one hit by the praetorian in the one planet. I can use it but I die. I know how to, but I die. Develop the habit of asking people if they know how to do stuff. Assuming gets you in situations you can avoid. Easy way to remeber. Assuming makes an ass(out of)u(and)me. in a team based game and activity, it's the entire teams job to do what I've suggested l. If someone doesn't know how to do something and you only find out after an hour of playing, that's your fault for not asking. That goes for anyone in this situation, this also applies to everyone in your fireteam. You are all responsible, as a team, to figure out your weakness and if stuff needs to be taught. From their you either find a new group if you don't like it, or you go through the steps. One of my first ever Normal crota runs when it launched. Played with randoms. We all pretty much asked who knew what. Turns out only 2/6 had completed and only a bit 3 of us had even seen videos. They took the time to ask if we knew and they were also nice enough to teach. In the end it took only 30 minutes for a team of new people learn how to do crota properly and quickly. The 2 people who helped and taught were surprised how smooth and easy it went as long as people can be taught if it's needed.
-
I feel the same way. I loathe 32's who are incapable. The raid is my favorite part of the game, so I watch videos and research it until I know every angle. So it pisses me off when ransoms post they want a quick run-but have no clue what the hell they're doing!

If u die on Mars with the relic. QUIT immediately out of embarrassment. Also I know the rule of thumb is DONT shoot the hobbies! But if everyone did and they popped their shields. No one would ever die on Mars. U would be right next to them and 1 hit them as soon as the animation finished. My thoughts.
-
lol it's amazing how people haven't figured relic out by now... Well more sad but whatev
-
Team full of 32s and they couldn't do Gorgons so they left and I just got to gatekeeper and invited them back.
-
Relic holder isn't the MVP at this point. In fact, give it to your worst player. All they have to do is cleanse and hold cleanse down in the middle. I'm going to golden gun the minotuar or the hobgoblins for them so all they have to do is sit back and watch the ride.
-
Is rather hold the relic mostly because I don't trust ppl
-
Edited by JadedDark: 2/8/2015 2:00:51 PMSadly people still "fear" relics and being the guy who let the team down. It's pretty frustrating being one of the 3 that gets teleported and the relic just sits there. I always hold the button just because I don't mind it one bit and don't want some retard grabbing it.
-
I dropped down on hard Templar on my 28 Titan which was about 2 weeks ago(my Titan is 32 now) and did it because people were scared off the relic :)
-
I became a relic holder on normal because of no-one else wanting to do it. Now, I'm a guy with a Gjallarhorn and a good sniper icebreaker/black hammer for each as well... I'm a much better damage output .... But I seem to be the only competent relic holder I run into consistently. People just want easy HM rewards... They don't want to work for it.

I'm with you mate. While on Hard Mode I had a level 32 ask me what times vengeance did! But to be honest I don't even blame the player. It was Bungie's call to make vendor gear L31 and easier drops on Crota's End. It used to take us upwards of 3 months to hit L30, and by then we knew everything about the game mechanics, raids and weapon burn. L30+ should be reliable, but because it's so damn easy to hit 32, our community is now overwhelmed with powerful yet inexperienced players. I've started judging players by their Grimoire score - your soon learn if their fresh blood or not. It saddens me that so many original guardians worked so hard to beat atheon on hard, earn their flawless and learn the mechanics - as without the appropriate knowledge and skillsets, success was unlikely.
-
People are afraid of the relic. Too much responsibility. I joined a random group last week and tried for an hour as well. Never beat it. Joined a different group the next, beat it on our 3rd try, and got my first Vex!
-
Tell them they should do it on normal to practice and then go back to orbit and find a new group. There are 32's that started playing since Christmas and they play VOG on hard and act like they are the best players in the game.
-
What they need to do is put it back the way it was and let us choose who gets teleported.

And also there seems to be a distinct lack of people who attempt hard mode Crota. That have the necessary equipment or who just don't know the mechanics of the fight or they have both but then no heavy. How hard is it to wait until your ready. It just floods the forums of people are no help so you can't find the capable.

I jumped in a pickup group this week just for an atheon kill. They couldn't figure out why they couldn't kill him. We got to the first times vengeance and I'm shooting my black hammer at him and keep hearing fusion rifles going off. "Hey guys, use your ice breakers for this, Xur just sold it like 2 weeks ago" "We didn't buy it, and we only have blue sniper rifles, fusion rifles do enough" "A guardian has left the fireteam" Waited for some guys i know to clear it and beat it in 1 teleport, first time.
-
Why use a fusion rifle on atheon is the first question that came to my mind there.
