Recoil and they just don't seem to be effective until melee range. They also don't quite have that powerful shotgun feel like in other games that have them.

In Destiny, shotguns are only really useful if you get a couple of headshots in your spread. They're not as viable in Destiny as they are in Call of Duty and Killzone. Call of Duty shotguns can be used as panic weapons. They're a lot more difficult to master in Destiny.

I'd agree with that. Could be too that I haven't used them enough in pve but they just don't feel right for some reason
