Shitty range and a fair number of enemies and situations do not go well with shotguns. Imagine trying to use shotguns on many of the boss enemies in this game, not easy. Try using a shotgun on valus tauric or phoggoth. Limited ammo doesn't help, though mitigated by extended mag and/or shotgun ammo perks, it's still rather little depending on the gun. That's pretty much it. other than that it does provide it's intended purpose of quick burst of dps. The range will be getting nerfed a bit again and the spread but... At least for pve it's getting x2 damage. So those 4 shotgun blasts today to kill prohibitive mind for the bounty will become 2. Which is a huge difference considering it's a major/ultra and it was invectis which does solar and not void for the shield.
