The *specific* reason is because they make this game so most of the important content includes even low level enemies that can one shot you, there's no way to get close enough for a shotgun to even damage them.

No problem, wasn't being a dick just trying to show the correct spelling so people can learn. I used to not put the asterisk* next to it but people often wouldn't notice and continue to spell the word wrong.
