Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.
Thank you!
EDIT: Typo, and thank you for feedback. :p

No Range, not that much damage. Rather use a sniper for Crit shots at safe range
-
I use them every now and then, but I use Snipers like Black Hammer and Ice Breaker and Fusion Rifles like Vex Mythoclast*, Murmur, Light of the Abyss, Peruns Run alot more then I use shotguns. That being said, I can see why Bungie would buff them for PVE, where as in PVP, shotguns gain more mileage because of how close quarters engagements can be become. *I said vex because it is a Fusion rifle and likely had an influence on the stats of the guns used in PVE.
-
They are a close quarters weapon - PVE maps generally favour mid to long range They are a weapon of last resort when an enemy is on top of you. I would rather keep the secondary slot for a sniper rifle - which does high dmg at greater RNG Getting headshots with them is problematic up close and a waste of time as they are a naturally clumsy weapon designed for reaction rather than aiming
-
Fusion rifles are better in almost every scenario except at near point-blank.
-
They don't have enough range.
-
Pessific. Lord. And cuz I don't like them
-
I like having skill, and shotguns, obviously, take no skill.
-
Shotguns have terrible risk/reward in PVE. PVE has penalties for death ranging from annoying to extreme. The most likely place to die is close range. Bosses typically one shot you, majors and ultras don't go down fast enough and will kill you at close range. Finally weak mobs tend to come in packs and can most easily kill you at close range. To top all this off we get mobs with perks such as light switch or angry or elemental burn. Even with the shotgun buff it may be a nerf if range is further reduced. In PVE you just can't close range and reliably stay alive. If you die you face an extreme penalty.
-
The *specific* reason is because they make this game so most of the important content includes even low level enemies that can one shot you, there's no way to get close enough for a shotgun to even damage them.
-
Because this game is redundant and wildly mediocre
-
i will only use them as a defender titan inside of my saint-14 ward of dawn. too easy to die from a melee attacking enemy in this game.
-
Because if I run up to a knight and blast him/melee and he DOESNT die, then what? There are no situations where a shotgun is the weapon of choice for PVE. I don't think Ove ever actually seen anyone use one.
-
Because I'm trying to get to 5000pve kills with snipers. Shotguns can be fun though. I have a couple that Wreck. A fwc arc with range finder and a full auto void. Arc one makes fallen captains sit down lol
-
Range is a joke, may as well run a 224 rare fusion/sniper. By the time the enemy is close enough to do damage to, either they are already dead or you are...
-
Risk reward my friend. In PvE there is no reason to use one. Weak enemies can be killed with primary weapons and strong enemies won't die quick enough. Plus the prevalence of light switch in higher level activities such as nightfall and weekly strikes makes getting into melee range suicidal. I do hope that this buff makes them more viable in PvE and less prevalent in PvP. I use a shot gun in PvP myself...but only because I feel that the weapon balancing forces me to use one.
-
If there was a legendary or exotic shotgun with a slug perk...more people would use it. Firefly and field scout.
-
This nígga said "pessific"
-
I do use them. Pacifically when there are mobs of low hp trash to shoot.
-
Not smart imo.
-
If I'm that close to an enemy already they're just gonna get punched/knifed/magic slapped.
-
I would love to use one against knights as the swordbearer but it isnt smart to stand that close to one and get boned lol
-
Plot twist: I do. I've got quite a few fully upgraded shotguns, including working on the damage upgrades for my Universal Remote. They are all so tasty tasty. My Hide and Seek has some disturbing range, too
-
If Bungie didn't load everything up with lightswitch, give every boss a point blank one shot, etc. I'm sure more people would. Shotguns can't be used in nightfall, they can't be used in raids and every time there's a lightswitch modifier on the daily story you're risking a wipe. Even the weekly with mobs that benefit from burn one shotting you means it just can't happen.
-
Because.. the range is too short. My invectus isn't maxed yet. I'd rather use a primary. I left it in the vault. I don't have any heavy synth... Err wait
-
I will probably use them more after the 100% pve damage increase! Got a dlc legendary arc shotty for melting captains with, and invective for wizards

Edited by TeKnoVKNG23: 2/6/2015 7:22:31 PMBecause at end game or any of the harder content, the last place you want to be is up close to most enemies. Fusion Rifles offer a great damage alternative that can be used from a pretty good range away. That's not going to change even with the range nerf. Snipers overall out perform both weapons and allow you to take down enemies quick and efficiently from distance. Personally I don't think the 2X damage thing is going to help. If you are playing anything at level 30, or the nightfall, or any of the harder content, Knights, Captains, Stealth Vandals, etc. are still going to be able to kill you in like 1-2 hits up close regardless of how much damage your shotgun does. Hell, Psion's can one hit you at level 26-28 with their melee attack, and then when you add in all the burns and modifiers in most of the harder stuff, it just doesn't make any sense to use a weapon that puts you in such risky territory on the battle field.
