Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.
Thank you!
EDIT: Typo, and thank you for feedback. :p

I find I run out of ammo too quickly and green ammo drops aren't frequent enough. All of the shotguns I've used have less ammo reserves than fusion rifles and fusion rifles (especially with armor piercing) have more potential to take out multiple enemies. This is on top of what most other people have said (short range equals dead most of the time).
-
Fusion rifles do far more damage from much greater distances. Try shotgunning a boss from close range and see what happens to you... lol.
-
I find my maxed Murmur to wreck like crazy, so I usually use that.
-
Damage is like shooting blanks
-
Sniper rifles ( & sometimes fusions) are more satisfying to use imo.
-
Because you can't use a shotgun when you're dead from a 1-hit-kill melee.
Contrary to Bungie belief, I do use them occasionally, but almost only for Knight headshots. I rarely use Special weapons unless it's a sniper, otherwise.
-
Because my Icebreaker is a stubborn gal and refuses to leave my special weapon slot.
-
In PvE sniper rifles seem to be ideal. Great for shooting at range and critical dmg on bosses. For everything else there's hand cannons.
-
Two shots, point blank, to kill a level 8 thrall...

Edited by Noctroglyph: 2/6/2015 9:33:33 PMLove Invective, but you need to be just a wee bit too close to majors to make a shot that may not be a One Shot Kill for my liking. I really don't care for the trash talk in PvP in this game, so I go elsewhere for that (PC).

Bad range
-
Because icebreaker or prudenceII
-
because ... range
-
Slow reload speed, fast ammo depletion, and small ammo cap make shotties a non-viable alternative in PVE under many, but not all, situations. However, I just got Invective and am leveling it up. Once I am able to use the fitted stock for better stability, I think this will be a fun gun to use on a more regular basis. The problem with ammo cap is still there though.
-
Because the bullet sponge level 30 majors and ultras don't give a fig seed about taking 5 shotgun hits to the face.
-
It'd be kind of fun to have a fireteam do like we did in COD 2 back in the day, have a shotgun only strike, or any other weapon for that matter, pistols only, snipers only. It would add challenge to an already boring bunch of strikes. Cheers
-
Invective is fun to use in pve
-
Most of the time getting face to face with the enemies is a bad idea. Not to mention shotguns are pretty useless against pretty much all the strike/raid/story bosses with their anti-melee skills. Just more of a time saver to snipe everything.
-
No range...
-
I do, that double damage buff is gonna be sick If only I had a shotgun that gave a shield/health on kill. Then I would be happy
-
Maybe it's the need to physically place the barrel in the anus or mouth of any creature you wish to shoot. You know, throw projectiles at? They worked fine at launch, PVP range nerf (justified or not) completely ruined them for PVE.
-
Edited by Shturman: 2/6/2015 7:39:53 PMYou have to get too close to your target which puts you at risk of getting your ass hit, which is really bad if lightswitch is on or arc burn and you get hit by an arc sword or a thrall. And you don't deal enough damage to justify taking that risk. A Sniper can easily dish out more damage and a safe range. Once Shotgun damage is doubled, it will be a game changer.
-
Because there's only four PVE activities I take part in, 3 of which would be suicide by getting that close to an enemy. (Raids, nightfall and weekly) ROCs you can still get away with a shotgun
-
I never really like getting that close to the enemy. I prefer staying back with my about rifle.
-
I love my swordbreaker
-
You need to be close enough to melee them for it to be useful.
