Triple. A. Title.
Edit #1- Wow I got a ton of feedback from posting this. Glad to see there are so many guardians out there still voicing their opinions. Also, on a side note, I just want to make it clear that I did not create this video.
Lets hope threads like this may change Bungie's strategies for story telling in the future. Although the concept of the Grimoire is a great ADDITION to a story, and unclear narratives can sometimes lead to community driven story telling, I cannot help but feel that the lack of a cohesive story in Destiny is a result of poor planning, budget cuts, or laziness on Bungie's side.
Thanks again for the feedback guardians, keep it coming, and keep your light safe.
Edit #2- Broke 900, soon to be 1000! Lets keep the conversation rolling. Also I would like to address one point.
This video does indeed use information presented in the Grimoire cards. However, the praise I am giving is directed at the way this narrative is PRESENTED by the creator of the video. I feel that the way this information was organized in the video is much more effective than any way it was presented by Bungie themselves. Time and effort was put into the creation of this video to make sure the player understood lore, actual events in game, as well as symbology related to the story that is told. This, in my opinion, seems like a much more caring way to present a narrative.

Nice bit of work, but the title is completely misleading.
-
Great vid! One question though, for anyone who actually is able to use the grimoir... From the story missions in the game I came to believe that crota was defeated, and that's why we were stopping the hive from reviving him... This vid, I assume taken from the cards, says that we abandoned the moon because we weren't able to defeat him. So... Was he killed/banished or not? If so, who did it?

Bump to watch later because I'm at work right now.

good find. thanks for sharing.

Edited by iSuperkyIe: 2/5/2015 1:49:46 PMNice, but it's so damn stupid that it wasn't already in the game. NOBODY WANTS TO GO ON THEIR PHONE - TO THIS LITTLE HOMO DESTINY APP - JUST TO READ ABOUT THE GAME, WHEN DEVELOPERS SHOULD HAVE IMPLEMENTED IT IN GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE. EITHER THEY WERE TOO STUPID OR TOO LAZY- the game was and still is obviously too much for BUNGIE to handle. Start coming up with some real creative ideas that adults should be capable of. If BUNGIE was a student at a school it'd be placed in the ESOL classes-due to its ability of not being able to handle its work.

Edited by JonNoName: 2/5/2015 2:28:22 PMBungie, I hope you see this and feel embarrassed. Your game could have been so much better with a coherent story. You could have drawn us in to this universe. Instead this one person did what your entire studio could not do.

I'm really upset. This person's great work makes me feel insulted by Bungie. I'm also upset on behalf of the writers who created such good lore. I write myself and it's hard to come up with such an interesting story especially around a video game. With decent philosophical undertones and stuff. It's things like this that make games GREAT. I'm highly offended that Bungie just doesn't care enough about their product to give their players this fantastic context to what they are doing. And don't tell me crap about a Grimoire. I'm supposed to accept that this lore should come to me AFTER I've participated in all these significant story events and searched for dead ghosts and then go onto a WEBSITE and try to piece it together like I'm -blam!-ing Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci Code? And don't tell me they couldn't do it. These clowns are swimming in HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars. They have a whole full time staff working on this experience. And they couldn't even do this much themselves? Even if they had it as a video available in-game like their worthless trailer you can still watch by clicking near the Tower. There is no excuse for this flagrant mediocrity. There is none. And damn it I like this game. I like it a lot. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't like it. It's just like I'm fighting with its creators who refuse to make the simplest decisions that just make sense! Why would they think that they shouldn't tell a story? They think that what this fantastic fan video did shouldn't be integral to my experience? Why not? I'll stop ranting now. And I know my anger will probably never be addressed, but it needs to be said. I'm disappointed in this company.

Edited by YeetMcYeety1199: 2/5/2015 8:17:51 PMBRAVO creator of video! Bungie, making garbage games and swindling gamers out of hard earned money since 2013

bungie used this on their facebook page they should be embarrassed
-
I love it.

Edited by Mindshard: 2/5/2015 8:13:42 PMGive it a week and no one will be talking about this. Almost 5 months later the grimoire and lore is a daily topic. This is all stuff from Bungie through the game or the grimoire, so I'd say their presentation works. The lore is there if you want it, but not crammed down your throat if you don't. People fly off the handle about not being able to skip cutscenes, how do you think it would go down if the entirety of the grimoire was shoved at them at every turn?

Jesus... that was hands-down the absolutely greatest fan-made piece of art I've ever seen. Not only does it give players the story that Bungie decided to not only exclude from the game itself, but you can't even access all of the cards needed to put these pieces together without putting a lot of time into playing the game sans these very relevant story elements. A++++++++++ Thank you for freely giving the players the meanings behind what they've been doing over the course of the past several months without the need to spend hours opening, reading, and piecing together this from a stack of cards only accessible online or via the app. This needs to be in-game. Playing the game should be the challenge. Putting together and understanding the narrative behind the game should not.

Very good video.
-
Bungie tweeted this video out yesterday. They also posted it to Facebook.
-
Very impressive. There is actually a story and a good one. It just hasn't been told correctly, until this. I'd love to see the whole story laid out and the VOG done as well. Keep up the fantastic work!!
-
Well done. After 1000 hours I finally understand what and why I'm killing shit. Lolllll
-
1 person can do this awsome job. 500 ppl at bungie with years and years of work have failed. Cut content does not equal dlc.
-
pretty sure the Destiny story was great up until a year before launch when they parted ways with the man who wrote the story. then they had to tear the story up and use random clips to ensure he was not due compensation thus giving us a Destiny without a story.
-
Or maybe this is what they wanted. They left an open narrative for its players to imagine their own conclusions, have open discussions about what each part unfiinished could mean, which character is good/evil, what lies ahead of us? Call it lazy, I call it ingenious. Without we may have never received videos such as this, or have sites devoted to the story telling of a community of players all drawn to the same game day in and day out, looking for answers they "left out."
-
Love it
-
Very good.

This is excellent.

Awesome job man this is amazing work

Wow! Excellent video.

Edited by WhoodyWhoKCMO: 2/5/2015 7:50:33 PMAwesome job!!! I've read the cards as I get them but it's nice to see it all put together in some sort of order.

Wait so this guy made the equivalent of cut scenes that are in most games. Which eveyone hates to watch in pve and your clamoring to bungie saying they failed at sometime no one wants to see but once.
