Check out Plato's cave.
These people are told from an early age what to believe and when you lead them out of the cave (ei enlightenment with atheism) they would rather go back into the "cave" of religion and believe a simple lie.
-
Uh, no. It is a delusion of Western civilization that sees "Reason" as our greatest human capacity, and everything that is not "rational" as "irrational" and a product of ignorance. The reason why people are still SPIRITUAL, is simple. Much of what makes us human and HEALTHY is NON-rational. The truly healthy and balanced person is both WISE---that is, sees things as they truly are---and he is also COMPASSIONATE. That is he cares for other people and all living things. Because he understands that allt hings are connected. "Religion" is the only institution in our culture that teaches this non-rational part of what we need to be healthy. Religion without Reason is blind. Reason without Religion is heartless.

I've been educated I know what Plato's cave is. Your point?

*sigh* why do so many Christians wear fedoras?

Atheism "enlightens" you just as much as any other religion out there. It's just another form a religion.

Terrible b8 m8 0/10

Well I wouldn't call atheism enlightenment rather just not being a gullible idiot. The reason people still believe in something like religion is because it is forced into them as children and like any cult it can take a while to deprogram them.
-
Because we want to be.

Are you retarded

Edited by The Cellar Door: 2/4/2015 11:35:58 PMLol as an atheist I would hardly call atheism being "out of the cave". I think you've misunderstood the allegory of the cave.
-
But atheism isn't being out of the cave either...

Nice b8 m8

The cave isn't specifically speaking out against religion, it's speaking against religion, government, and blindly following the opinion/status quo of the masses. Idk why people still do religion, maybe they feel it's one of the last sources of "power" they have control over.

Cause not everyone is an edgy teenager like you

Mankind thinks themselves gods. Why else would they try to hard to live up to the expectations of a god, or separate themselves so much from the earth and animals that we would destroy them for comfort. In a way religion exists because of man's narcissism.

Edited by Jotaro Kujo PhD: 2/4/2015 9:19:14 PMEverything in the universe is ingrained with unchanged, invariable principles. It's almost as if we were part of an experiment by a being so advanced that by our standards would be considered a god. I'm still very much Catholic, but I find that I'm leaning towards deism more and more. To me, it's a highly logical view.

Edited by FL NIGHTMARE: 2/4/2015 9:13:37 PMI feel like you are missing the point of that story. Its teaching you about perspective and how your perspective can blind you to the truth. I dont think god is real but for me to say I know only shows ignorance
-
I'm assuming you are a troll. Because if you are reading that, then you should be able to figure out that atheism is pretty much equal when it comes to stupidity, with theism. I'm an agnostic myself, however if I was to have to choose a side, theism would seem more logical.
