First, let me apologize, the title is rather misleading. I'm sure there is a lot more to know about these guardians from our past. But given what we have, this is the best speculation that i have of their history and their fate.
Hello once again guardians, I'm still currently working on the Everything you need to know about the previous legends posts, and i felt that if it could be nicely divided or grouped that would be the best way to do it. Always remember that you can find any of my posts by searching CoK, or even joining the Collective of Knowledge which could also be found by searching CoK. This post will consist of the devastating Vault of Glass raid and how the members entered, failed, or escaped to a different terrible fate.
Kabr, The Legionless, Pahanin, Praedyth, Osiris
Not much is known about Kabr The Legionless, he lead an unsuccessful raid into the Vault of Glass. That is what is known at least, is it possible that he actually made multiple attempts at the Vault? Let's look at the cards:
His name was Kabr. He wasn't my friend but I knew and respected him as a Guardian and a good man. He fought the Vex alone. This destroyed him. In the time before he vanished he said things that I think should be remembered. These are some of them:
"In the Vault time frays and a needle moves through it. The needle is the will of Atheon. I do not know the name of the shape that comes after the needle.
No one can open the Vault alone. I opened the Vault. There was no one with me but I was not alone.
You will meet the Templar in a place that is a time before or after stars. The stars will move around you and mark you and sing to you. They will decide if you are real.
I drank of them. It tasted like the sea."
That is all I can remember.
Pahanin
The bold is a primary reason why I think there were multiple attempts at the Vault. This was a quote of Pahanin, and if he witnessed the fall of Kabr then continued to build the super good advice machine gun, then how could Kabr have told him these things? It's widely agreed that Kabr went into the Vault and lost his fireteam to the gorgons, causing him to forget their existence, therefore if Kabr went multiple times he would have an understanding others wouldn't and would probably warn them of the threats ahead.
So let's assume that the final fireteam consisted of Kabr, Pahanin, Praedyth, Osiris, and definitely one, but possibly two more, but considering that the minimum number needed to beat Atheon is four (shut up about warlock self res 2 man teams) I feel like it's likely to be these four only. I know what you're thinking, Pig why would Osiris be in that team? He's never been before! And quite frankly it's simple. Osiris was the Toland of the Vex. If Kabr wanted to actually take out Atheon then he would want the best by his side. Not only that, but the Tread of the Hezen Lords even references Osiris by name.
Rumor has it that the exile Osiris came too close to understanding the Vex
In the fateful Gorgons maze where Kabr lost his original fireteam. This is where he truly went insane. This is where it started to make sense. He recognized once and for all that he could not have opened the vault and gotten this far without a fireteam by his side, so how did he? He lost them here and he knew it, whoever they were. He knew something had to be done so he sacrificed himself to create the Aegis. I understand that i've previously speculated that Kabr was sent into the future by Atheon, but I must apologize that wasn't based on enough fact, I still think a member of the team Praedyth has been sent though. Now there is the fateful, if I speak again I am not Kabr. This still leads to the possibility that he is like I've previously said was correct, but I don't think it likely. I think this means more that because of the armour kabr wore he would have became something different.
For his final venture into the vault he came to the gorgons once again, this could show that he may have only entered once before, his fireteam ready he makes it to Atheon. Both Osiris and Pahanin lived to escape the Vault, but Praedyth wasn't so lucky.
Praedyth's fall isn't over... because it hasn't happened yet... and it will happen again.
This leads me to believe that it was actually when Praedyth was sent into the future by Atheon that he was lost in the dark corners of time. Thus he died to the fireteam, but it hasn't happened yet, and it will happen again. Of course this doesn't actually mean that he died! Simply that he was lost to his team, so isn't it possible that he could come into the game at a later date?
This fight has lost so many. We could assume that the unknown fifth member was also lost in time, perhaps they even died, but what is known is that Osiris and Pahanin escaped. And really, only that Pahanin escaped. Osiris was obsessed with the Darkness even more than Toland, while Toland was more obsessed with the Hive and indriectly the Darkness, Osiris was the other way around, which also encompassed the Vex. I believe that Osiris lived, mostly because of the trials that are coming up about him, for more information about those use this link- http://planetdestiny.com/trials-osiris/
Pahanin went on to create the Super Good Advice to help cope with what he saw in the Vault of Glass. He was killed by Dregen Yor, wielder of the Thorn.
Before he murdered Pahanin, Dredgen Yor ruled the Crucible, the notorious Thorn at his side. - Cloak of Dredgen Yor
But more on him, and his fate in another post.
If you have any theories on the exo stranger after reading this, I highly suggest you search CoK. I've already made a post for her. (In your heads while I'm busy switch Kabr and Praedyth)
Thankyou for reading, your friendly neighborhood AnonPig!
as this is still being read and liked and bumped I thought I'd shamelessly plug my Twitter account here, @AnonPig for all updates and links to projects I will be working on from this point. I will no longer be posting on forums due to recent events that lead to a ban, thankyou for your time.
edit:
To those who wish to claim Kabr is atheon, I used to say then why does Kabr enter, and how does he know of atheon. As I asked that, I realized.
Time is not relative. Just because he becomes atheon after he enters doesn't mean he isn't atheon before he enters.
Now, to those who think Praedyth isn't a guardian.
I do agree that it is likely that Praedyth isn't a person, but it's because of its unlikely ness that I think he is. As you've read Praedyth is directly called he, and if I'm correct in saying all four were in fact members, Praedyth is the only one killed(sorta) by atheon/Kabr.
Update on Praedyth
Recently discussing this with a guardian. I've come to a solid argument that he was a guardian.
Kabr went into the vault and wore living Vex pieces, this caused an assimilation of him into the Vex mind. Just like the Sol Progeny and the Black Heart this went two ways, they influenced him in the ways of their actions, and he influenced them into bypassing the templar unharmed. From there he entered the gorgons labyrinth and sacrificed himself to create the aegis.
Praedyth did similar, he created weapons to fight against the Vex. Assimilated into their network and cast into the future he also created the Vex Mythoclast.

Reading this after watching Curse of Osiris trailer which shows Osiris and this fireteam fighting in the VoG. It shows some guardians frozen in time as Osiris is about to be lost to a Vex time gate.

almost 2 years later... I enjoyed this!

i missing this topics........

I've been reading up on your theories and holy shit dude, props for taking the time to research this stuff. Destiny has such an incredible lore rich universe (outside of the game mostly) but the fact you do this is awesome. Thank you.

Ha, your knowledge is that of a warlocks, but not of a hunters. Warlocks read what they think is true, but hunters see what they know is true. It does not mean hunters are more superior, means that a hunter cannot unsee the things he's seen. Pahanin, he is a great example. Praedyth did not see Kabr's lose. Therefore only predicted he might be alive. From the things he's read about him. But Pahanin saw his fall, he wishes that was a lie. He is traumatised. He made weapons after his escape. Machine guns. But you must see what I see. See from a hunter's perspective. See what is real, and what is not

Edited by njl4515: 2/3/2015 7:24:01 PMIt's probably been mentioned, but you are wrong about the multiple attempts. The line "No one can open the Vault alone. I opened the Vault. There was no one with me but I was not alone." is in reference to the fact that everyone he went in with was killed by the Gorgons. The Vault itself is an attempt to actually change the fabric of space-time. The Gorgons are extremely powerful creatures that can literally "write" you out of time. All of Kabr's team (the ones that ventured far into the Vault with him anyway) were seen by the Gorgons and were erased from existence. Kabr doesn't remember them because they technically no longer exist. However, he knows that you CAN'T open the Vault with one person. The contradiction slowly is driving him insane. Edit; my bad, you already understood that.

It's never explicitly stated that Praedyth was a Guardian. Literally all we know of Praedyth is that "(his) fall isn't over" etc. and "He skipped like a stone on time's ocean. (Praedyth's Timepiece) is what's left." Atheon's Epilogue, Praetorian Foil, and Hezen Vengeance all directly reference Vex minds. Vision of Confluence and Fatebringer are left ambiguous and the other two weapons refer to Praedyth. It's entirely possible that Praedyth is another Vex mind or entity. It is, however, explicitly stated that Praedyth is male, so the Exo Stranger is not Praedyth. Another theory suggests that Kabr became Atheon, which intrigues me at the very least. Vex cells assimilated Kabr, as is known; he became one of them, if he survived. The Oracles and Gorgons saw some reason in letting Kabr continue to exist. And lastly the word "atheon" translates to "godless"; compare to Kabr's title of "legionless", and the fact that the Vex worship the Heart of the Black Garden, but a Guardian turned Vex would have no real reason to. It's a stretch, but given the limited amount of clarity we've been offered, every theory is a stretch honestly. It goes on further to imply that Kabr used the timegates to fashion the Aegis, and ensure he could be defeated and the Vault conquered, and then the Mythoclast, which explains why it is fitted for human hands (which is questioned on its Grimoire card).

Maybe the stranger is working for toland. She says "how many?" Also, she says "don't let them find you" maybe some thrall were searching for him in the abyss and discovered him

Kabr is bae
No one can open the Vault alone. There was no one with me, but I was not alone...
What Kabr is saying is that the rest of his fireteam that were with him got erased from existence, thus meaning he would never remember them. It was most likely the Templar that erased them... If not him, than it was Gorgons, or more than likely, Oracles...
-
"No one can open the door alone. I did, there was no one with me, but I wasn't alone." This is him saying that he doesn't know how to open the door alone. He knows that there had to be someone there helping him but he can't remember them because they were erased by Gorgons. "There was no one with me" they were, he just doesn't know it now.

I have a theory about specifically what Kabr meant when he says that he "I drank of them. It tasted like the sea." As I think many people would assume, you think he was talking about the oracles, however I don't think that this is the case. I think he is literally talking about drinking the Vex themselves. As many don't know, the Vex are actually Radiolarians, which are zooplankton and are found throughout the ocean. Radiolarians are known for the siliceous ooze on the ocean floor. So when we kill a Vex with a precision shot, it splatters ooze all over the ground, and since radiolarians are found in the ocean, if Kabr and his fireteam "drank of them" and they are radiolarians it would make sense that they tasted like the sea, as the liquid inside a vex would probably be similar. If Kabr was wearing Vex armor to try to blend into the Vex network, or at least with the vex, then would it not be plausible for him to have drank the Vex to try to be seen as one or access the network. This drinking could also explain how Kabr was "infected" by the vex, alongside the armor. According to the new grimoire card, Vex 4, it tells of how Dr. Shim and his team from the Ishtar Collective are going into the Vex citadel on Venus inside of proxy bodies. They cannot set foot inside the citadel in their actual bodies because "The cellular Vex elements are infectious, hallucinogenic, entheogenic. The informational Vex elements are more dangerous yet - and there could be semiotic hazards beyond them, aggressive ideas, Vex who exist without a substrate." So if entering the Vex citadel on Venus is infectious, can cause hallucinations and can literally implant aggressive thoughts into someone without actually having a Vex substrate present, what do you think would happen to Kabr after he drank them, and wore them as armor. This would explain why he says that "If I speak again I am not Kabr." The theory that Kabr and possibly members of his fireteam drank the Vex is supported by a ship added into the Destiny database with the release of the HoW, named Alemyrs lament, it is a vault of glass ship, with the description "Would that I had stopped him before he drank." I think after drinking the Vex Kabr knew that he was at least being influenced by them, so he used his light to create the Aegis for future guardians.

Edited by Basicalllyyy: 8/18/2015 7:25:52 PMCould the Exo Stranger been the 5th person to the team because think she can go in and out of our universe or possibly timeline because she is always warning us of the vex's technology she could have been infused with something evil because her card states she has no ghost and the rumors have haunted the tower for a long time so is it possible she escaped by figuring out the vex's technique to entering and exiting our timeline/existence and she used the tech she had wielded to get her self out of the vault by teleportation like in the mission the Archive I think it was Ghost says "all of their minds are connected to a central mind and that's how they react so fast" so possible she used it to her advantage and teleported her self out of the Vault of Glass just a theory and on the Strangers Rifle ghost says "parts of this does not exist yet" so maybe she travelled back in time from that fateful moment of her team falling to Atheon and the Vex so she could earn you of the vex's power

So i was just thinking about this earlier today and has to do with atheon and the extra damage you can do. during the time you have to damage atheon in between teleports it allows you to do bonus damage. My theory on this is as far as we know (correct me if i'm wrong) there have been 3 teams that have delved into the vault. Your own team and two led by kabr. So what if during times vengeance through time (past, present, future) it has all three teams shooting atheon but in different timelines and zones. That would help explain times vengance in the form of atheon is unable to keep the timelines seperated while engaging you so he has to release the barriers between the times to defend himself from you and your team. This once again feeds back into the theory of through different points in time, different fights, different teams, (even going as far as) different atheons all fights are intertwined into one fight. And how that would work is atheon is being attacked from 3 (or more) fronts or flanks even though from our perspective we are the only ones fighting him becuase the other fights will be fought or already have. Let me know what you think of this and add-on/correct it if necessary -Silver

Edited by DEM_WEB_BOYZ: 8/18/2015 7:05:49 PMIm going to answer to the fact that why the Vex still exist after the fall of Atheon and also The Black Gardens destruction. What if Atheon did what Skolas did? He was pulling the Fallen through time. So what if atheon did the same which would be that he was pulling the Vex through time from an earlier Time before the Black Garden Heart was Destroyed. And Maybe even the Vex were teleporting to that point in time of the Past Vex or the Precursors I think thats the name. They were warned of the message and also went into the Future with the Present Vex to aid in Low Vex Troop amounts.
