So is it basically like an overall power boost that I can also use to make others have a power boost as well?

As a sort of aura yes, by being well tempered those around you become more powerful, as long you yourself remain well tempered you are immune to and can reverse the effects of aging, and your physical capabilities can go through the roof. Example: Hulk derives strength from rage, yours is Temperance.
