You're talking to PvE players here.
They have grinded day in, day out on [b]AI bots[/b] that pose no threat once you understand their patterns.
[u]So of course they will revert to tracking weapons.[/u] Just makes the job easier, as it means less effort in the grind. They don't play to get better. They play to get weapons to make their experience easier so they can in turn get more weapons that makes their PvE experience easier and so on and so on.
It's all part of the lab rat hamster wheel design.
As much as it burns them out, they really do love it.
They will defend this notion to the death, as they are so invested in it, they see themselves not as slave grinders, but veterans that have earned the right to mock and label non grinders as ''kinderguardians' or below 2200 grimoire score as destiny noobs or share the thinking that Xur should not sell G horn and grinding should be rewarded in other means than RNG and that level 32 is a sign of skill.
These are the people you're dealing with. Soul-less conservative hardcore grinders.
