2 questions
1. I thought the daily heroic at level 30 guaranteed ascendant materials. It was in the reward list for today's. I got two shards and a blue engram, but my girlfriend only got a blue engram and some helium. Is this a glitch or are the items in the reward list RNG?
2. My girlfriend bought an exotic engram from Xur. She didn't want the exotic gauntlets it turned into so she dismantled them. No shard. Is this a glitch or is it more bullshit where Bungie makes you learn the hard way?
Not my girlfriend's night apparently. Don't worry, I made her dinner. Baked Ziti. I'll be rewarded later.

You can only play the daily once on any difficulty I believe, before you could play on a lower difficulty, and get the difference on a higher difficulty later, now If you play on any that's it. You can check her play record to see if she played it already. if you breakdown an engram you get nothing, did she take it to the cryptarch?
