This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

200 burn tears collected bounty plasma burn completed

Do you always put the mini umbrellas in your drinks? Do you live on a secluded island? Do you have a grass skirt? A coconut bra? Maybe a surfboard? These are important questions that deserve answers.
-
FYI. Any video game is bad for plasma burn in due to HUD feature in all Games. This post is incorrectly blaming Destiny(or just worded poorly) for something that is just common sense.
-
This is a known issue with Plasma TVs, in the past few years most manufaturers have gone a long way to sloving these issue with "motion adaptive anti burn in" of improvements in the phosphor gas itself. Sorry to say but you just bought a shit TV, Noting to do with destiny. Also Projectors offer the best Image in a dark room.

Plasma is bad for gaming period. Glad to see ppl learning everyday...

My friend has the darkness zone thing at the left of your health bar burned in his TV. Someone else I know had the minecraft inventory burned in his TV. Will never get a plasma screen :P
-
I have this. Go on YouTube and run the static for a few hours. It's supposed to fix it man.
-
Never had a problem with mine. And I've put it over 200 hours.
-
I also had a plasma tv and it is not destiny avoid playing games in plasma tvs.

-
HUD too OP. Bungie pls nerf
-
Scary...the fact that the majority of people responding to this thread have no understanding of plasma picture quality. The only TVs that have better picture quality than top plasmas are 2015 OLED 4k sets costing a fortune. To OP: have you tried running a screen wipe/fix program for 10 hours or so?
-
They still sell plasma tv? I bought my LeD two years ago weren't plasmas like 6 years ago
-
Play on a box tv like a man

I have over 500 hours playing Destiny on my 50" plasma and not 1 issue,it's also almost 10 years old at 6200' of elevation.Tuesdays I generally play for 12+ hours straight. To those that say LED's are better are wrong right at the moment still for gaming.I have a very nice LED TV(less then 1 year old, panisonic brand) and I play video games on my plasma instead since the picture is so much better. Those 4k TV's and higher are a joke for gaming since PS4 and the like are not sending 4k+ signals.
-
Definitely not the best picture you can buy. MOST newer LED TVs have better pictures than plasmas. All 4K and OLED are better and 10K is already showing up. The only two things that's good about plasma is the refresh rate (hrtz) and price. They are considerably cheaper than LED TVs right now because LEDs are better.

LED Monitor master race.
I've got a 27 inch LED monitor with a 2ms response time and 2 bil colors. Was originally only 300 dollars but I nabbed it for 200. I recommend anyone who games to use a monitor. They're cheap and the best thing to use for gaming specifically.
Well. This post is about a month late. LOL
-
Most plasmas should have some built in burn reduction tools like pixel shift and black to white scrolling. Check your menu.
-
How I wish I still had my Pioneer Kuro, best tv ever made, sold it for more than I bought it for, what a dumb decision.
-
The PSA is nice of you, but I would hope anyone who owns a Plasma would be aware of this issue. I have an old Samsung PN50A550 from 2008 and I haven't seen any burn-in. A friend of mine has a Panasonic ZT65. It's a beautiful TV and he hasn't noticed any burn-in. The ST50 is very nice as well.
-
i heard if you run a magnet over the problem areas it reduces the appearance of the burn-in
-
Plasma tv's are very prone to burn in.....also a very slow response time.
-
Should've bought a sony led or even a LG led.. Better picture, and no burn.. Worth the price..
-
I know how to fix this, and it will not re-occur for the life of your TV. Very easy and doesn't take long at all.
throw out your outdated piece of sh*t plasma, and go buy a real TV!!!
