This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Either you play too much or that is a shit tv. I'll admit I also play to much before scrubs start loosing their shit.
-
Heh, I have a 2005 Pioneer Plasma TV. Been through years of TV and Gaming already, so I'm pretty sure it's not going to succumb to Destiny messing up the screen now.
-
I've never had a problem on my plasma?
-
I've had my plasma for about 5 years and I play big hours on it and I have never had a problem
-
Known issue since plasmas came out idk 15 yes ago...
-
Plasma Tvs aren't for gaming you idiot. Especially if you are going to play for hours.
-
Don't play on obsolete TV tech
-
No gamer should own a plasma, burnt images has been plaguing them since inception.
-
What year is this? 2004? My 2007 Pioneer 5080 has over 700 hours of destiny and tons of other FPS HUDs over the years. No burn in ever and still has the blackest blacks. There should be burn in protection built in to a monitor that new. Just put on some bright pixar movie or something and run it for a while and it will work out.
-
This is why I prefer my 80" screen and my ISF calibrated panny AE8000u projector.
-
Rofl your own fault for buying plasma and it isnt destiny its any game that has set icons that u dont use much
-
This is why plasma TVs suck
-
It's unlikely to be permanent. Try selecting an analog input with no signal, the random snow effect should break up the burn overtime. I've been gaming on a plasma for 8 years and haven't had any burn that lasted longer than a few hours.
-
Um I this isn't new most video games are super are super harsh on plasma tvs..... Research guardian!
-
I have a 50" Samsung Plasma but it has many Burn-Protection features that have kept me burn free for over 3 years of intense gaming (Including Destiny). Does your TV not have similar features?
-
Unless you reside in a home with no heat I don't think a plasma would make sense to own. Mine use to heat up my whole room back in 2001.

Edited by HOLY REGIME: 1/29/2015 8:03:16 PMWho even buys has a plasma TV. Don't they have 10 year span?
-
Already learned that lesson the hard way. :/
-
Despite the difference in picture quality, this is why I stick with LED. Besides, while the picture quality is best on plasma, it doesn't change the fact that LED and LCD still have a good picture.
-
Who still uses plasma tvs
-
You do know that a plasma is not meant for gaming, right? Yeah it has better picture but is it worth ruining your TV?
-
Dont buy plasma tv's
-
You likely have IR (image retention) not burn-in, and IR does fade over time, it can take a few days in severe cases. True burn-in can take over a thousand hours, even thousands, such as with an on all the time display in a mall. ALL plasmas have less 'burn in' potential than a CRT. Check your settings menu for a band scroll option that helps erase IR, and an image shift feature that automatically shifts still features a few pixels after 10 minutes.
-
Most plasma sets have a moving pixel option in setup menu.
-
Not our problem you have a garbage ass plasma TV, get a better TV noob

I didn't post this to start a plasma vs led war..plus for everyone saying my tv is absolute trash, please look up reviews for a Panasonic ST50.. It's good to learn things before you start accusing me of buying cheap trash. As for people who are being helpful, I appreciate it! And for the people who experienced the same exact problem as me from destiny, I'm sorry and good luck!
