This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Samsung 50" plasma, between my wife, son, and my account on destiny that's probably 800 to 1000 hours and no real issue. My account alone is over 650 hours. I bought mine for gaming because of the quality of the picture. I did a roughly 400 hour break in, twice what was recommended to be sure. I do run scrolling every night for 10 minutes when I go to bed. Thankfully the picture is still as amazing as the day I bought it! Hopefully your issue will resolve itself with normal use. In the future if you're going to go with plasma try to get one with a similar feature. For mine specifically I just turn on scrolling and go to bed 10 minutes later the TV shuts itself off. Good luck.

Minecraft hot bar was burned into my old tv
-
Lol you have a plasma tv. Haha
-
People actually game on a plasma?? A gaming monitor is not that expensive guys
-
Except all the Plasma manufacturers recommend not using them for gaming because of the risk of burn in. Your fault for using your electronics incorrectly.
-
Who the heck still uses plasma TVs?
-
Plasmas are garbage. Get with it man
-
The only reason I settled for led. Was to worried this would happen even with the protection they implement on newer plasmas. Gl on it clearing up.

Edited by Mad Koopa: 1/29/2015 12:51:26 AMI'll let my TV have the image of my Gjallarhorn burned into it so I can constantly bask in it's greatness no matter what I'm watching.

Edited by Skarush: 1/30/2015 4:25:29 PMdude if that happens to your tv, either your tv is old as -blam!- or your store selled you some sh*t. this was fixed years ago. and yes, I work in that business edit: "best picture you can buy!" that lasts for half a year or so. its a gas, that can escape in older tvs = below average picture plasma need a damn huge amount of power. try oled if you can afford it, better in any point.

This is true of all games not just Destiny, but recent plasma TVs are usually fine, I know mine is fine and it has hours of CoD and Destiny hud under it's belt. If ever you do get burn in a good trick is to select an input that is not used and that gives you the snow screen. Leave it on that for about 10 minutes.

That is hilarious

Welcome to 1999

Plasma TVs are on a dyeing course, that is why the half price compared to a same sized led tv...

Same thing happened to me. I noticed it two weeks ago and stopped pal uign the game. Here's the thing I don't get, never had any stubborn image retention from any game, static TV image. And I play other shooters, halo, titanfall. Even Diablo 3. But this one game caused my barely one year old VT60 to have the HUD burn in. I had the contrast on 80, after using a calibration disc I brought it down to 50. I've been running the screen wipe and disney WOW pixel flipper for an hour at a time. At first it cleared up a good amount but last Sat. It hit the wall. Can't say I'm making much progress. I notice it on off white backgrounds most. Like hockey ice. It's a shame because it was my favorite game. But I can't do anymore damage to my dream TV. The lack of talk or update from Bungie regarding a patch for this issue is truly amazing. I can't believe that it could be a hard thing to complete.

Most games with static ui's will do this to plasmas.....
-
Idk about you but my plasma has screen burn repair on it x.x
-
I game on a Panasonic Viera plasma, it clears after a while. As has been said, it's image retention and will go away once other content has been played across it for a period of time.
-
Note to OP. Common problem with Plasma which is why gamers buy LED :)
-
Solution: don't play on a plasma.
-
Gears of war already has burnt lancer and gnashers into mine lol
-
Any game can do that dumb -blam!-
-
permanent damage (screen burn) = inferior plasma temporary damage (image retention) = normal for plasma for modern(ish) plasma, image retention is removed through normal usage. my 9 year old plasma is refreshed after maybe 10 min of watching tv
-
Your fault that you use a plasma....
-
Are you serious right now?
-
Either you play too much or that is a shit tv. I'll admit I also play to much before scrubs start loosing their shit.
